INITIATIVES

The information required by FCC Rule 73.2080(c)(6) is provided in the chart that follows. The employment unit engaged in the following broad outreach initiatives in accordance with various elements of FCC Rule 73.2080(c)(2):


WERU continued to provide a free training program for area youth to prepare them for volunteering or employment in radio and Internet broadcasting. 

WERU trained 5 high school students who became music and cultural spoken-word programmers with regularly scheduled programs. WERU is a member of the Imagination Intensive Communities of the Blue Hill Peninsula, a project of the Maine Alliance for Arts Education.  
 


WERU continued to provide a free training program designed to enable station personnel to acquire skills that could qualify them for higher-level positions.


WERU offered introductory training to members of the public at no charge. Over the year approximately 50 individuals received training. Topics covered include: station and FCC regulations, introduction to broadcast and production equipment, music program preparation, interviewing, station management and governance, nonprofit fundraising and music library maintenance. The trainings yield new volunteers for WERU, who in turn are a strong source of job applicants when positions are available. Training classes are widely promoted via our broadcasts and website. 
 

WERU participated in other activities designed by the station employment unit reasonably calculated to further the goal of disseminating information as to employment opportunities in broadcasting to job candidates who might otherwise be unaware of such opportunities.
