On March 11, EMDC held a luncheon session highlighting the national attention EMDC and Eastern Maine has been receiving for economic development efforts--including the Mobilize Maine Initiative. The special guest Charles Fluharty, President Emeritus and Vice President for Policy Programs at the Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI), is an expert in how rural communities are affected by decisions made in public policy. I spoke with Ruth Lockhart of the Mabel Wadsworth Women's Health Center in February, about bills in the Maine legislature that would affect access to reproductive healthcare for Mainers across the State. The gubernatorial canditates discuss "quality of place" in Bangor.

A gubernatorial candidates forum on the topic of Maine’s quality of place, was held on September 21st at the Bangor Opera House. The event was sponsored by several Maine-based nonprofit organizations, including: the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, Casco Bay Estuary Partnership, GrowSmart Maine, Healthy Community Coalition, Maine Conservation Voters Education Fund, Maine Development Foundation’s Downtown Center, Maine Downtown Coalition, Maine Farmland Trust, Maine Preservation, Maine Rural Partners, Trust for Public Land and the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine.
