Democracy Forum, our monthly public affairs program that presents engaging topics in participatory democracy (every third Friday, 10-11 a.m.), was recently recognized for excellence by the Maine Association of Broadcasters with the 2018 First Prize Award in the public affairs category! The program is a collaboration of WERU and the League of Women Voters of Maine – Downeast.
The winning installment of the Democracy Forum is entitled “Immigration: Can We Live Without It?” This program explores the positive impact that immigration has on economic development and workplace Maine. Listen to the archived program.
The award was presented at the annual MAB Awards Banquet on September 22nd in Augusta. Congratulations to the all-volunteer team at the LWVME-Downeast who plan and coordinate the program: Starr Gilmartin, Maggie Harling, Linda Hoskins, Sheila Kirby, Ann Luther (on-air program host), Maryann Ogonowski, Pam Person, Leah Taylor and Linda Washburn!
This is the second year in a row that WERU has been recognized for excellence by the MAB for a program on immigration in Maine. Last year Maine Currents won the public affairs first place for Maine Currents, “Immigrant Legislation Testimony,” produced by Amy Browne, our News & Public Affairs Manager.
