DESCRIPTION:The 22nd Annual Camden International Film Festival (CIFF) is almost here! September 17—20\, 2026 at venues in Camden and Rockland\, Maine. \nThe festival spans four full days (Thurs–Sun) and kicks off with a free community screening of Nanette Burstein’s film Carl Sagan: We Are Made of Star Stuff on Wednesday\, September 16\, 2026. \nThis year’s edition includes 28 features and 35 short films from 24 countries. Half of the features in the program are either U.S.\, North American\, or World Premieres\, including several new works coming straight to Maine following recent premieres at Venice\, Locarno\, and Toronto\, along with award-winners and standout films from Sundance\, Berlinale\, Visions du Réel\, Cannes and others. DESCRIPTION:Join award-winning master carver Josh Brewer for this 5-day workshop. Josh will lead students through hand-carving a preening duck (no feet showing) from a cedar blank; then finishing it with sanding and paint. All tools\, materials and the blank are supplied as part of the class fee\, but students are welcome to bring their own carving tools. The class will happen three consecutive days the first week (September 17\, 18 & 19)\, then finish the following week on two consecutive days (September 25 & 26). All class days start at 9am and go to roughly 3pm). SUMMARY:Underwater Opera Youth Theatre Camp
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our “first ever” week-long Youth Theatre Camp. This camp is centered on Smithereen Farm and Greenhorns’ Reversing Hall Agrarian Library and led by a group of young and highly motivated theatre professionals from New York and California who share our ethos of bioregionalism\, self determination and youth empowerment. \nAt the heart of the camp is holistic\, uninhibited creativity. In the incredible marine and riverine habitats of our area\, children will find natural inspiration to create their own theatrical performance about the eco-system. Your child will learn creative skills by helping build an artistic community and immersing themselves in an environment of rivers and bays\, of seas and beaches\, barrens\, and bogs.\nGuided by instructors with backgrounds in theatre\, clowning\, and education\, your child will learn the basic elements of theatre through daily acting\, singing\, movement\, and improv classes. Each day will be filled with outdoor excursions in which your child will integrate their learning by singing to the trees and dancing with the water. The day camp will culminate in a final showcase for friends and family — a student-driven show that utilizes an incredible handpainted underwater backdrop created by the Artists’ Rapid Response Team during the www.ForAlltheFish.org campaign earlier this spring.\nAll are welcome to join us for the performance at the end: a youth-led tale of the marine heritage\, comedy/tragedy\, prospects and particularities of this place and moment in time. Amidst theatrical instruction and show development\, students will learn about the ecological history of their area through guided study at Greenhorns Agrarian Library. We’ll learn from atlases\, field guides\, indigenous accounts of encounters with settlers\, from wild food cookbooks\, as well as many other formats. We’ll focus on cod\, pollock\, alewives\, sardines\, clams… all will inspire the costumes and set design.\nWant to bring the whole family? We can help you find accommodations if needed. \nUnderwater Opera is designed for youth ages 7-13 and meets during the day only. Cost is $640 for the full week which includes lunch.

Tudor\, a Deering HS and UNE graduate and athlete\, who lost her life to a sudden brain aneurysm in December 2008. The Karo-5K is in memory of Karolina A. Kurka\, a Scarborough HS and UNH graduate who passed away from an undetected brain aneurysm in July 2011. \nNow in its 18th year\, this annual event has NOW grown to include hundreds of families affected by brain aneurysms or stroke and this day is used to honor survivors and remember loved ones lost to this silent killer. \nFunds raised by the event will benefit our local efforts to support early detection\, education\, fund research\, and create awareness about brain aneurysms in Maine and northern New England. \nPlease join us\, as we “share our tears\, remember with love\, walk & run to honor” Kim\, Karo\, and many other families affected and help save lives!
