SUMMARY:A Day of Tape Art w/Michael Townsend & Leah Smith
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, October 1 the Blue Hill Public Library will once again host a day of Tape Art for students of all ages on and around the peninsula. Throughout the day\, students from local schools will visit the library for an interactive Tape Art workshop with artists Michael Townsend and Leah Smith where they will learn how to make unique art out of masking tape. \nIn the afternoon\, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. people of all ages can try their hand at the medium\, adding to the work that will have been completed by the students earlier in the day. Participants will be able to create this remarkable\, temporary art directly on the walls of the library. \nFollowing the workshop\, everyone is welcome to join us for a special art reception and the Friends of the Library Volunteer Appreciation event from 5:00-7:00 p.m. to see the creativity of our community and celebrate our volunteers\, while enjoying snacks and refreshments. \nTo wrap up the day\, all are welcome to join Michael and Leah for a lecture\, slide show\, and Q&A on Tape Art at 7:00 p.m. \nThis free program is sponsored by the library thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Library. For more information contact Teen Services Librarian Kendall at kendall.chapman@bhpl.net or 374-5515.

SUMMARY:A Continuation of “Color” by Susan Finsen
DESCRIPTION:Susan Finsen’s colorful pottery will continue to be on display for the month of October in the Blue Hill Public Library’s Howard Room Glass Cases. Composed of unique vases\, platters\, and “Leggy Whatnots\,” Susan’s exhibit pushes viewers to consider how deeply color influences what we see\, remember\, and enjoy. Susan says that\, for the last few years\, clay hand-building (not using a pottery wheel) has been her medium of choice\, providing unlimited opportunities for play and spontaneity and producing unexpected organic forms and surfaces. \nThe show will be available for viewing through October 30\, subject to the Howard Room meeting schedule. For more information\, contact the library at 374-5515.
