DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our “first ever” week-long Youth Theatre Camp. This camp is centered on Smithereen Farm and Greenhorns’ Reversing Hall Agrarian Library and led by a group of young and highly motivated theatre professionals from New York and California who share our ethos of bioregionalism\, self determination and youth empowerment. \nAt the heart of the camp is holistic\, uninhibited creativity. In the incredible marine and riverine habitats of our area\, children will find natural inspiration to create their own theatrical performance about the eco-system. Your child will learn creative skills by helping build an artistic community and immersing themselves in an environment of rivers and bays\, of seas and beaches\, barrens\, and bogs.\nGuided by instructors with backgrounds in theatre\, clowning\, and education\, your child will learn the basic elements of theatre through daily acting\, singing\, movement\, and improv classes. Each day will be filled with outdoor excursions in which your child will integrate their learning by singing to the trees and dancing with the water. The day camp will culminate in a final showcase for friends and family — a student-driven show that utilizes an incredible handpainted underwater backdrop created by the Artists’ Rapid Response Team during the www.ForAlltheFish.org campaign earlier this spring.\nAll are welcome to join us for the performance at the end: a youth-led tale of the marine heritage\, comedy/tragedy\, prospects and particularities of this place and moment in time. DESCRIPTION:Paint in one of the most beautiful seaside spots on Mount Desert Island with artist Erika Elizabeth at Seal Cove picnic area. Students will learn how to paint water\, rocks\, and trees to create their own watercolor landscape\, surrounded by mountains\, a working harbor\, and the sea. Erika has a unique style of teaching that encourages watercolor students to play and experiment with their art. It’s an easy walk\, with options for painting down on the rocks or near a flat picnic area. Bring your supplies and a chair/towel for sitting on\, plus a easel. Materials are available with advance request – please ask for materials in the “Notes” field when you sign up. Meet at Seal Cove.

DESCRIPTION:The Closing Fair at Camp Etna will have vendors\, mediums giving readings and a History Walk at noon. This is the last guided tour of the season with the Camp Historian around the grounds of Camp Etna\, a Spiritualist Camp that has been providing continuous summer service since 1876. It begins at their expanded museum where the walls tell their rich history. Camp Etna was known as the seat of Spiritualism for decades. People came to speak and to be inspired from around the world. The museum is handicap accessible but the roads are not paved so if mobility is an issue access is somewhat limited.

DESCRIPTION:Join award-winning master carver Josh Brewer for this 5-day workshop. Josh will lead students through hand-carving a preening duck (no feet showing) from a cedar blank; then finishing it with sanding and paint. All tools\, materials and the blank are supplied as part of the class fee\, but students are welcome to bring their own carving tools. The class will happen three consecutive days the first week (September 17\, 18 & 19)\, then finish the following week on two consecutive days (September 25 & 26). All class days start at 9am and go to roughly 3pm).
