SUMMARY:Autumn Celebration & Cider Pressing
DESCRIPTION:The Jonathan Fisher House of Blue Hill will host our annual celebration of the arrival of autumn and the end of our tour season at the House on Sunday\, October 11 from noon to 2:00 PM. Join us for activities\, live music\, and refreshments\, bring your apples and other fruit to add to our community cider-pressing\, and take a turn at the press at this free\, outdoor\, family-friendly event. \nPear and apple cider will be pressed on-site from the blue-ribbon winning pears planted by Jonathan Fisher as early as 1805\, as well as apples from our orchard and donated fruit from around the peninsula. \nAdditionally\, there will be guided tours of the reconstructed historic orchard\, highlighting Fisher’s original design and planting\, as well as the process of re-establishing the orchard twenty years ago based on the documented apple varieties from Fisher’s original orchard map. \nThis event is open to the public and free of charge\, though donations are always welcome to support the Fisher House.

SUMMARY:Celebration of Life for Trent Pettison

Pettison II (“Trent from Trenton”) passed away this summer and there will be a memorial service for him on Friday September 25\, 2026 at 11 am at Acadia National Cemetery in Jonesboro\, ME. Come celebrate Trent’s life at Black Moon Public House in Ellsworth that evening from 6-9 pm. \n \nThe Crown Vics will perform in Trent’s honor and would love to have people there to celebrate Trent with them! \nTrent’s friends are inviting memorial donations be made to WERU at https://weru.org/donate/\, or by mailing checks to WERU\, PO Box 170\, East Orland\, ME 04431-0170\, with “In Memory of Trent Pettison” in the memo line or include a note with your check. \nTrent’s Obituary: \nTrent A. Pettison II of Hancock Maine went home to his Lord Jesus Christ on July 10\, 2026. He was born on March 7\, 1961 in Lowell\, Connecticut\, son of Trent and Elaine. Trent is survived by his son\, Trent Pettison III\, his brothers\, Todd Fairchild (Donna)\, Cyril Roberts (Crystal) and sister\, Schelle Roberts. He is also survived by many friends and a community that loved him. \nTrent was a man that lived the way he wanted\, simple. He didn’t care about possessions\, he cared about people. He only knew one way to live\, to love and cherish every day\, and everyone! He loved his nation and would fly the American flag on the side of Franklin Road on a regular basis. He was a man that couldn’t go to a simple convenience store without acknowledging every person there. Trent loved talking about music and would educate people on obscure bands and of course\, the local music scene. When the conversation would come to an end\, Trent would conclude with a friendly smile and peace sign saying\, “Peace\, Love and Woodstock.” \nTrent was a proud Navy Veteran who received many awards and medals for his service which include\, Good Conduct Medal\, Navy Expeditionary Medal\, National Defense Service Medal\, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon\, Navy Rifleman Marksmanship Ribbon along with 3 bronze stars. \nTrent gave his heart to each and every person he’s ever met. Consider yourself blessed for knowing him. Consider yourself blessed if he made you smile as he was waving the American flag. Trent will be deeply missed and will never be forgotten\, so for now Trent\, until we meet again\, “Peace\, Love and Woodstock!” We love you! \nTrent’s service will be Friday September 25\, 2026 at 11am at Acadia National Cemetery in Jonesboro ME. That evening\, there will be a celebration of life at Black Moon Public House in Ellsworth from 6-9pm. One of Trent’s favorite local bands\, The Crown Vics\, will be performing to honor him. \nAgain\, Trent loved music and especially loved community radio station WERU. He would call them regularly and chat with the DJs while requesting songs\, and they enjoyed hearing from him. \nWe will be accepting donations at Trent’s celebration of life to donate to WERU Community Radio in his memory. \nIf you would like to donate to them directly\, please send a check to: WERU-FM\, PO Box 170\, East Orland\, ME 04431-0170. Please be sure to write “In Memory of Trent Pettison” in the memo or include a note with your check. \n– Friends of Trent Pettison \n

SUMMARY:People-Nature-Art with Painter Sean Murtha
DESCRIPTION:Throughout his life\, Sean Murtha’s interest in science and nature never waned\, even as he pursued a degree in art. In fact\, science and nature usually formed the basis for his artwork. In 1995\, five years after he earned an MFA in painting from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn\, N.Y.\, he found the perfect marriage of art and natural science when he began working for the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. There he learned the art of diorama background painting\, a rare skill he continues to use at museums to this day.\nThe Wendell Gilley Museum welcomes him on Tuesday\, Aug. 18 as the People-Nature-Art presenter for the month. There will be an in-person artist’s reception at 6 p.m. at the Gilley\, followed by a presentation at 7 p.m. that will happen in person\, and livecast online simultaneously. Admission is free but registration is required.

SUMMARY:Celebrate Brooklin: Where our past and future meet
DESCRIPTION:BROOKLIN\, Maine — Friend Memorial Public Library invites the public to Celebrate Brooklin: Where our past and future meet\, a free community event on Friday\, August 7\, 7:00 p.m. at Brooklin Boat Yard\, 44 Center Harbor Road. Docks and doors open at 6:30 p.m.\, with films beginning at 7:30 p.m. \nThe evening will feature the premiere screening of two newly completed short films: CIRRUS: A Wooden Boat Story and steward•ship: a love letter to the maine coast. Filmmakers Ken Murphy\, Durier Ryan\, and Luc Milam will be in attendance to meet guests and share more about the stories behind the films. \nCIRRUS: A Wooden Boat Story tells the story of Cirrus\, a 1930 Fishers Island 31 designed by Sidney Herreshoff\, and the enduring care required to preserve a wooden boat with history\, beauty\, and meaning. steward•ship: a love letter to the maine coast follows the restoration of an H-28 through the eyes of its young owner\, exploring craftsmanship\, mentorship\, and the relationships between generations. \nGuests will also see familiar Brooklin residents on screen\, including Maynard Bray\, Jon Wilson\, Steve White\, and others whose lives and work reflect the town’s deep maritime heritage and enduring community spirit. \nWhile the films are rooted in maritime heritage\, the event is designed as a larger celebration of Brooklin itself. The evening invites year-round residents\, seasonal residents\, newcomers\, Library supporters\, and friends of Brooklin to gather\, meet one another\, and celebrate the people\, traditions\, and shared sense of stewardship that help define the community. \n“Our Celebrate Brooklin event is about bringing people together around the things we value and want to carry forward\,” said Robert A. Baird\, Chair of the Friend Memorial Public Library Capital Campaign. “The films give us a beautiful starting point\, but the evening is really about Brooklin—its people\, its traditions\, its generosity\, and its future. We are grateful to the filmmakers for helping create an event that welcomes the whole community while supporting the Library’s next chapter.” \nThe evening will also include live music\, light refreshments\, boat viewing\, exhibits\, and a live and silent auction. \nThe event is presented by Friend Memorial Public Library in support of its Capital Campaign\, which will preserve and expand the historic Library building and help establish the future Anne and Maynard Bray Maritime Research Center. The Center will house one of the nation’s most important private collections of materials and photographs documenting wooden boat and ship design\, construction\, operation\, and history. To date\, the campaign has raised $3.1M of its $4.4M goal. \nCelebrate Brooklin is free and open to all\, with no RSVP required. The event will be held rain or shine.
