Join us at Schoodic Institute with special guest carver Jim Vekasi from the Wendell Gilley Museum for hands-on bird carving demonstrations outside the Welcome Center at Rockefeller Hall (July 21st and August 4th and 18th\, 9am – 12noon\, and 1pm – 4pm). \nVisit with Jim and pick up a carving knife yourself – there is no charge to give it a try! Then visit the display of bird carvings from the Wendell Gilley Museum inside the Welcome Center. \nJim is a longtime carver with the Gilley\, as well as being a retired Acadia National Park employee who was deeply involved during the establishment of Schoodic Institute 25 years ago. \nDrop by to check out his craft! DESCRIPTION:The Blue Hill Library will present a discussion series with local retired teacher\, Bill Case\, on the book American Revolutions: A Continental History\, 1750-1804 by Alan Taylor. The discussion starts Tuesday\, June 30 at 1:00 p.m.\, and continues July 14\, and July 21\, leading to a lecture with the author Alan Taylor on Saturday\, July 25. Bill Case is a retired high school and college history teacher with over fifty years of experience. This program is free and open to all\, though space is limited\, so registration is required. This talk traces the journey from measuring plastic contamination in marine ecosystems to redesigning aquaculture systems that eliminate plastic gear entirely.
