SUMMARY:WERU Presents BAIT BAG & Hot Velvet
DESCRIPTION:Join WERU as we present a concert with BAIT BAG on Saturday\, September 26\, 7 pm at the American Legion Hall in Belfast. Featuring special guest Downeast party rockers Hot Velvet to open. \nThis concert is made possible by funding through the Maine Community Foundation. Thank you to MCF for helping WERU to support Maine musicians\, venues\, and listeners! \nTickets: $10 in advance\, $15 at the door \nFounded in 2018 by Fiona Robins\, Claire Donnelly\, and Courtney Naliboff\, BAIT BAG was featured on KEXP’s Sound and Vision podcast and has shared the stage with punk and indie legends Deerhoof\, Screaming Females\, Laura Jane Grace\, and Weakened Friends\, and made friends and fans from New York to Machias. Their music is a blend of post-riot grrrl anthems\, jagged dance breaks\, and tight harmonies. \nThe seven songs on BAIT BAG’s latest EP\, Cut Fruit\, delve into the urgency of being seen\, feeling wanted\, and expressing desires\, presented from the unique perspective of women in and approaching middle age. CUT FRUIT proposes that visibility and the honest expression of yearning are radical acts. \nSeasick from the news cycle? Seeking release? Join BAIT BAG and find catharsis in their post-riot grrrl anthems\, jagged dance breaks\, and tight harmonies. \nAnd don’t forget… Hot Velvet

SUMMARY:Casey Neill at Barncastle in Blue Hill - WERU Benefit Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a benefit concert for WERU by critically acclaimed indie singer-songwriter and folk musician Casey Neill\, at Barncastle in Blue Hill\, on Friday October 2\, 2026! Thanks to Casey for once again lending his considerable musical talents to raising funds for WERU. Come on out to see and hear a great artist in an intimate setting\, and for a great cause! And thanks to Barncastle for partnering with us again! \nDoors open at 6:30pm to access the bar and seating\, and the show begins at 7:00pm. Tickets $20 in advance (plus fee)\, $25 at the door. Purchase your tickets ahead here! \nCasey Neill is a songwriter from Portland\, Oregon performing high energy indie folk\, infused with haunting melodies and weather beaten narratives. A prolific road warrior since the late 90s\, Neill tours throughout the USA\, Japan\, and Europe\, performing at venues such as Town Hall in New York\, San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall\, and the Newport Folk Festival. Two new albums of his songs are out in 2023 – one by his band Casey Neill & The Norway Rats (Sending Up Flares) and a solo CD of acoustic songs titled time zero land. A self-produced collection of bedroom recordings\, time zero land leans into the American folk and traditional Scots/Irish influences that have often underscored his songwriting craft and guitar work. The songs on Sending Up Flares and time zero land offer a lifeline to a world in need of balance\, shot through with stories about resolve\, resilience\, and wonder. \nCritic Marco Rivera described it best for music blog Splendid: “Be it through raucous rockers\, fragile acoustic ballads\, soulful touches of Irish folk\, Neill’s narrative talent and concern for real people’s struggles stand out. The results are so evocative\, you’ll be tempted to steep further in these memories\, the better to share Casey Neill’s particular blend of personal and historical experience.” \nIn 1997 Casey Neill began a run of three songwriter albums for acoustic label Appleseed Recordings as well as contributing tracks to their Pete Seeger Tribute along with Bruce Springsteen\, Billy Bragg\, and Bonnie Raitt. A compilation of his material entitled Memory Against Forgetting was released by Indigo Girl Amy Ray’s Daemon imprint in 2005. Following a few years treading the boards in New York City\, Neill moved back to the thriving music community in Portland\, Oregon. In 2007\, a far more electric record Brooklyn Bridge was released and The Norway Rats were formed to support it with members of The Decemberists and Eels. Neill is a frequent member of power pop band The Minus 5 along with Scott McCaughey and Peter Buck of R.E.M. Casey Neill & The Norway Rats recorded three records across the 2010’s – the dreamy Americana of Goodbye to the Rank and File the art rock collection All You Pretty Vandals and the electro-folk and pop explorations of Subterrene. It’s been five years since their last album and Sending Up Flares is the sound of a band rallying together\, turning the genre-bending range of its influences into the group’s most cohesive\, cathartic album yet. \n“(Neill’s) songs mask their complexities beneath a simple\, singalong-worthy surface… these swimming waters have serious depth.” – Rolling Stone \n“These are songs with stories well told” – Steve Earle \nLearn more at www.caseyneill.com

SUMMARY:Dolly's Coffeehouse
DESCRIPTION:Singer song-write\, Geoff Warner will perform a mix of original songs and roots covers on guitar and a few fiddle tunes for good measure! Blues legends\, Reverend Garry Davis\, and Mississippi John Hurt and the 60s Rock and Roll he grew up with are influences in Geoff’s fingerpicking guitar style. \nNature\, love\, sailing\, dogs\, birds\, local and global problems and solutions\, and the island life of Deer Isle Maine\, where he lives\, have all ended up in Geoff’s songs in one way or another. “The best songs are like paintings\, you find the perspective\, capture the light\, and then know when to stop.” Often introducing or ending a song with a good story to add origin and dimension\, Geoff considers his performances to be a musical conversation with his audience\, that invites intimacy. \nThe first hour will be open mic\, where everyone is welcome to perform: music\, mime\, poetry\, dance\, etc. Performers are requested to arrive a few minutes early to sign up. There will be a brief intermission with refreshments\, followed by Geoff Warner. \nDonations benefit the Dolly Fisher Emergency Fund\, which provides emergency fuel\, food\, and utility help for households on the Blue Hill Peninsula and informing the public about other available resources. Held downstairs in Fellowship Hall\, come listen and join the fun. Admission is by free-will offering. FMI: contact 374-2891.

SUMMARY:Camden Opera House's Blue Café: Abbie Gardner
DESCRIPTION:Named a “triple threat” by Bluegrass Unlimited\, ABBIE GARDNER has made a name for herself as one of the the only solo dobro troubadours in the country. Don’t let her infectious smile fool you\, beneath that radiant exterior lies the soul of a fierce and fiery slide guitar player. You might know her best from her work with Americana darlings Red Molly\, but Abbie Gardner centered her own gritty\, sweet tales of love and loss on her 2022 solo album DobroSinger. It reached #11 on the Billboard Blues chart. She’s a Kerrville New Folk Finalist (2025) and was nominated for Folk Alliance International’s Artist of the Year (2025). Her live show is truly unique – heartfelt vocals and warm stage presence\, backed up by top notch picking on an instrument that is more typically in the background. Come for the heartfelt\, intimate ballads and stay for the raw\, bluesy picking. Gardner’s got all your musical bases covered. \nBlue Café shows are free to the public and are supported by donations to the Community Arts Fund. Seating is limited. Doors open at 7:00pm at 29 Elm Street; take the elevator to the 3rd floor. FMI\, call 207-236-3154.

SUMMARY:Great Music with Good Friends: A Fundraiser Concert featuring The Speed of Sound & MKTrio
DESCRIPTION:Join Midcoast Music Academy for an evening of live music with The Speed of Sound and MKTrio! \nThe Speed of Sound is a Maine-based indie band that blends sharp musicianship\, melodic sensibilities\, and a love for timeless songwriting. Fronted by our good friend Spencer Albee on lead vocals\, vintage keyboards\, and rhythm guitar\, the group also features MCMA instructor Zachary Bence (lead guitar\, background vocals)\, Jake Greenlaw (drums\, background vocals)\, and Caleb Sweet (bass\, background vocals). The band has a hankering for Wonder\, Hendrix\, Little Feat\, McCartney\, The Meters\, Zeppelin\, Hancock\, Bowie\, Zevon\, and Detroit-era Motown. \nMKtrio is Myles Kelley (keys)\, August Duclos (bass)\, and Owen Markowitz (drums). MCMA alumni Myles and Owen grew up in Midcoast ME\, forever in debt to the angels at MCMA\, but August is from The Big Apple. They describe their music as loud\, quiet\, medium\, good\, bad\, ugly\, locally grown and unflinching. \nThis all-ages fundraiser features a cash bar and raffle\, with proceeds supporting Midcoast Music Academy’s founding principal to never turn a dedicated student away. \nTickets are $30 in advance ($15 for students) or $35 at the door and can be purchased at www.midcoastmusicacademy.com/mcma-concert .
