SUMMARY:Gravity and Other Myths
DESCRIPTION:Everybody is a master of something. \nBlink\, step\, jump\, balance\, flip\, fly. \nThis is an ode to the countless hours needed to achieve great things. \nA tribute to the dedication required to realise our physical ambitions. \nAn acknowledgement of the backstory that is often more spectacular than the finished product. \nEight world class acrobats investigate physical skill; how we obtain it\, how we perfect it\, and how it can transform our lives. Through highlighting the nuance of high-level acrobatics\, audiences experience a heightened appreciation of the countless hours required to master the skills they are witnessing. \nThis is a love letter to our bodies and the amazing things they let us do every day. \nThis is an invitation to watch us work. \n“Once again gravity and other myths bring shock\, awe\, and delight.”\n– Glam Adelaide \n“Jaw-dropping”\n– The AU review \n“Regular gasps and squeals of disbelief from the audience members behind me\, and spontaneous applause from the audience throughout\, reassure me that it is not just me who thinks some of the skills on display are unbelievable. This is an almost mind blowing level of skill on display and what can be achieved with a dedicated pursuit of perfection.”\n– The Clothesline \n“The performance is a showcase of this company’s talent that extends way beyond acrobatics\, into visual storytelling\, movement\, and contemporary dance.”\n– Stage Whispers \n“I would give this 10 stars if I could. An absolutely mind blowing show from this home grown Adelaide company.”\n– Kids In Adelaide \nPhoto credit: Darcy Grant

SUMMARY:Staged Reading of Wallace Shawn’s “Aunt Dan and Lemon” to Benefit Waldo County Woodshed and Waldo County Bounty
DESCRIPTION:Wallace Shawn’s “Aunt Dan and Lemon\,” directed by Belfast’s Zafra Whitcomb\, follows a young woman\, Lemon\, and her charismatic mentor\, Aunt Dan\, whose stories of glamour\, comfort\, and admiration for powerful men slowly reveal how ordinary people come to accept cruelty and hand their allegiance to strongmen. Written forty years ago\, it feels like it was written for this fall. \nA good story can reach people in ways arguments can’t. Theater lets us sit with hard questions together and then talk about them\, and it brings people into the room who might never come to a meeting. \nCome early and stay late for the social gatherings before and after each performance\, with music by DJ Dee Dee Seahorn. The event is sponsored by Madison Cook\, candidate for House District 39. \nReserve your tickets now at belfastmaskers.com/auntdan\, and bring family\, friends\, and neighbors. \nFriday\, Oct. 23\, 7:00 PM (social at 6:00) and Saturday\, Oct. 24\, 2:00 PM (social at 1:30)\nBasil Burwell Community Theater\, 17 Court Street\, Belfast \nTickets: $5\, $15\, $25\, or $50.
