SUMMARY:Underwater Opera Youth Theatre Camp
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our “first ever” week-long Youth Theatre Camp. This camp is centered on Smithereen Farm and Greenhorns’ Reversing Hall Agrarian Library and led by a group of young and highly motivated theatre professionals from New York and California who share our ethos of bioregionalism\, self determination and youth empowerment. \nAt the heart of the camp is holistic\, uninhibited creativity. In the incredible marine and riverine habitats of our area\, children will find natural inspiration to create their own theatrical performance about the eco-system. Your child will learn creative skills by helping build an artistic community and immersing themselves in an environment of rivers and bays\, of seas and beaches\, barrens\, and bogs.\nGuided by instructors with backgrounds in theatre\, clowning\, and education\, your child will learn the basic elements of theatre through daily acting\, singing\, movement\, and improv classes. Each day will be filled with outdoor excursions in which your child will integrate their learning by singing to the trees and dancing with the water. The day camp will culminate in a final showcase for friends and family — a student-driven show that utilizes an incredible handpainted underwater backdrop created by the Artists’ Rapid Response Team during the www.ForAlltheFish.org campaign earlier this spring.\nAll are welcome to join us for the performance at the end: a youth-led tale of the marine heritage\, comedy/tragedy\, prospects and particularities of this place and moment in time. Amidst theatrical instruction and show development\, students will learn about the ecological history of their area through guided study at Greenhorns Agrarian Library. We’ll learn from atlases\, field guides\, indigenous accounts of encounters with settlers\, from wild food cookbooks\, as well as many other formats. We’ll focus on cod\, pollock\, alewives\, sardines\, clams… all will inspire the costumes and set design.\nWant to bring the whole family? We can help you find accommodations if needed. \nUnderwater Opera is designed for youth ages 7-13 and meets during the day only. Cost is $640 for the full week which includes lunch.

SUMMARY:Danny Fisher-Lochhead Large Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:The Danny Fisher-Lochhead Large Ensemble was born in Brooklyn\, NY in 2013 with a much different cast of characters\, except for the stalwart Ross Gallagher who has held it down in every version of this band. When Danny moved to Downeast Maine in 2015 seeking a new logic to his life and musical pursuits\, he started to slowly lay the groundwork and musical will to re-assemble this project. In 2023 this version of the group came into being\, and in 2025 they released their album World of Difference on Fishkill Records. This band is made up of some of the most exciting improvising musicians in the state\, and the music they make together\, while it bears the markings of its roots in the Jazz tradition\, is distinctly on its own terrain. The result is alive\, richly textured\, rhythmically grounded and complex\, ecstatic\, and deeply connected to the body and the emotions. No previous expertise required.

DESCRIPTION:The Closing Fair at Camp Etna will have vendors\, mediums giving readings and a History Walk at noon. This is the last guided tour of the season with the Camp Historian around the grounds of Camp Etna\, a Spiritualist Camp that has been providing continuous summer service since 1876. It begins at their expanded museum where the walls tell their rich history. Camp Etna was known as the seat of Spiritualism for decades. People came to speak and to be inspired from around the world. The museum is handicap accessible but the roads are not paved so if mobility is an issue access is somewhat limited.

DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our “first ever” week-long Youth Theatre Camp. This camp is centered on Smithereen Farm and Greenhorns’ Reversing Hall Agrarian Library and led by a group of young and highly motivated theatre professionals from New York and California who share our ethos of bioregionalism\, self determination and youth empowerment. \nAt the heart of the camp is holistic\, uninhibited creativity. In the incredible marine and riverine habitats of our area\, children will find natural inspiration to create their own theatrical performance about the eco-system. Your child will learn creative skills by helping build an artistic community and immersing themselves in an environment of rivers and bays\, of seas and beaches\, barrens\, and bogs.\nGuided by instructors with backgrounds in theatre\, clowning\, and education\, your child will learn the basic elements of theatre through daily acting\, singing\, movement\, and improv classes. Each day will be filled with outdoor excursions in which your child will integrate their learning by singing to the trees and dancing with the water. The day camp will culminate in a final showcase for friends and family — a student-driven show that utilizes an incredible handpainted underwater backdrop created by the Artists’ Rapid Response Team during the www.ForAlltheFish.org campaign earlier this spring.\nAll are welcome to join us for the performance at the end: a youth-led tale of the marine heritage\, comedy/tragedy\, prospects and particularities of this place and moment in time. Amidst theatrical instruction and show development\, students will learn about the ecological history of their area through guided study at Greenhorns Agrarian Library. We’ll learn from atlases\, field guides\, indigenous accounts of encounters with settlers\, from wild food cookbooks\, as well as many other formats. We’ll focus on cod\, pollock\, alewives\, sardines\, clams… all will inspire the costumes and set design.\nWant to bring the whole family? We can help you find accommodations if needed. \nUnderwater Opera is designed for youth ages 7-13 and meets during the day only. Cost is $640 for the full week which includes lunch.

DESCRIPTION:Writing as Resistance: A Drop in Writing & Correspondence Group for LGBTQ+ Adults\nMonday September 14\, October 5\, November 9 | At Rockweed Center\, 156 High Street on Penobscot land in Belfast\, ME \nJoin Out in the Open for an ongoing\, monthly drop-in writing focused gathering space for LGBTQ+ adults (ages 18+) to receive prompts for poetry\, prose\, or journaling\, to learn about writing as a political response tool\, and to cultivate LGBTQ+ centered writing community. \nParticipants are welcome to engage in the tools offered (which will vary each month) or to work on personal writing and related projects. Topics and tools that may be covered include writing to incarcerated folks\, responsive writing such as letters to the editor or legislative testimony\, and writing as creative process & practice through writing off line as writing stories of resilience and resistance to fascism and surveillance etc. \nThis group will typically be held the 2nd Monday of each month\, starting September 14\, from 5:30pm – 8pm with the exception of Monday October 5 being the first Monday. Facilitated by Out in the Open staff and occasional guests. \nSoup\, bread (including gluten free)\, tea\, and coffee will be offered at no cost. Paper\, pens\, pencils\, envelopes\, and stamps are also provided. \nThere is an incline from the side walk to the doorway to enter the building. Restrooms are on the same level as the gathering space and are gender inclusive. KN95 masks are provided and encouraged\, and the gathering space is ventilated with a fan\, air purifier\, and cross breezes.
