SUMMARY:Bear Grease
DESCRIPTION:The hilarious all-Indigenous hip hop musical \nA fearless\, funny\, and deeply heartfelt reimagining of Grease\, this “Rez-ed Up” remix swaps 1950s greasers and pink ladies for a cast that proudly spotlights Indigenous language\, music\, and moves with Broadway flair. Bear Grease reimagines the iconic 1971 musical Grease through a bold and comedic native lens. This all-Indigenous musical parody infuses hip-hop and comedy into a pow wow-powered love story that’s equal parts hilarious homage and cultural celebration. Captivating audiences across North America Bear Grease has had over 200 successful performances over 4 incredible years\, and is also the longest running (and only the 2nd) all-Indigenous musical to ever debut Off-Broadway. \nThe beloved songs of Grease are revitalized with vibrant cultural expression and Cree (Nêhiyawêwin) language: “Hopelessly Devoted” becomes a soul-stirring round dance\, “Bear Grease Lightning” bursts with Traditional\, Grass\, Chicken\, and Fancy footwork\, and “Wichihin” delivers a powerful new take on “Stand by Me”. \nTickets $30 – $40 | Includes all fees \nNote: Certain productions\, such as this one\, are not presented by the CCA\, University of Maine or the UMaine system.

SUMMARY:Stress and Effective Coping as Our Climate Changes
DESCRIPTION:The Rockport Conservation Commission welcomes Professor Thomas Bateman to the Rockport Public Library for a talk about ways to improve our psychological well-being in the face of climate change. \nBateman notes that—with regard to climate change—scientific causes\, disasters\, and technical solutions receive the bulk of public attention and coverage. “We need to attend more\, and better\, to ourselves\,” asserts Bateman. “This includes climate stress and coping strategies\, which can strengthen both personal and community resilience.” \nThe program will explore customizing pro-climate actions in ways that 1) aren’t too costly\, 2) suit personal interests and skills\, 3) are satisfyingly impactful\, and 4) contribute to needed system changes. This talk will not be about personal carbon footprints. \nThomas S. Bateman\, D.B.A. is the Bank of America Professor Emeritus of Commerce at UVA McIntire School of Commerce. Bateman specializes in organizational behavior and strategic leadership. He conducts research on proactive behavior\, problem solving\, and job stress in organizational contexts and as behavioral challenges in the domain of climate change. \nLearn more at rockportlibrary.net.

SUMMARY:Points North Presents: Camden International Film Festival Encores
DESCRIPTION:Missed some of the films on your list or want to share your favorites with friends and family? You’re not alone! \nCatch encore screenings of Camden International Film Festival stand outs at the SPACE and other venues across Maine this fall. \nNovember 10\, 7 PM\nHow to Clean a House in 10 Easy Steps\nDir. Carolina Gonzalez Valencia\, 2026 \nMoving fluidly between performance and reflection\, How to Clean a House in Ten Easy Steps imagines a world in which the director’s mother Beatriz\, a domestic worker in the US\, is a best-selling author. Using the fabricated book as a framework to explore the complex conditions of her life\, mother and daughter weave a fantastical and fragmented tale of immigration\, domestic labor\, authorship\, and mythology. \nNovember 18\, 7 PM\nDirigo Docs \nMaine is not just the gathering place for CIFF\, but a living\, breathing landscape shaped by the storytellers who tend to its memories. Across this year’s selection of locally made short films\, stewardship comes alive as a daily practice. From tending to a wooden boat and caring for farm animals to forging Muslim foodways and preserving Passamaquoddy traditions\, these stories explore what it means to inherit and sustain this place—and its histories—with intention. \nSteward·Ship\, Dir. SUMMARY:The Lion Sisters
DESCRIPTION:The Lion Sisters are a sibling duo from New Hampshire whose music is defined by the natural synchronicity that comes from growing up and creating together. With Josi on fiddle and vocals\, and Lily on guitar and vocals\, their tight harmonies and effortless onstage connection form the core of their sound and set them apart in the modern acoustic landscape. \nTheir music blends folk and bluegrass with Irish fiddle\, vintage country\, and subtle pop and rock influences\, creating a style that feels both rooted and refreshingly original. Rather than fitting into a single genre\, The Lion Sisters have shaped a musical identity that is distinctly their own—warm\, melodic\, and contemporary while honoring traditional acoustic foundations. Their debut EP\, released in January 2025\, consists of six original songs recorded by Nashville music producer Jim Prendergast.
