The banners show over 30 images from Maine\, Newfoundland\, Scotland\, Iceland and the Caribbean and come with informational sidebars.

SUMMARY:Photo Walks & Film Darkroom Basics
DESCRIPTION:Join local photographer Glendon Rand for a photo walk through Belfast. Participants will bring their own camera (smartphone\, digital\, or film) OR they can borrow one of Glendon’s refurbished film cameras for the day\, along with a FREE roll of film. The group will then adventure downtown to take photographs with instruction on the basics of film photography (film speed/digital ISO\, aperture\, shutter speed\, framing your shot\, using natural and artificial lighting\, and lens focal length). \nAfter the walk the film will be processed by the instructor and a meetup will be scheduled to view the photos on a projector and discuss together. A second workshop will be scheduled for interested students who wish to learn how to print black-and white enlargements from the film negatives and engage with or refine darkroom techniques.

All proceeds to benefit the library. \nConstructed in 1919-20 from sketch plans drawn by New York architect John W. Merrow\, the East Blue Hill Library is an unusual adaptation of the bungalow style to the specialized library building type. A major renovation in 2023-2024 doubled the existing space\, adding a new reading room\, bathroom\, and basement\, with the goal of increasing accessibility and community engagement. Following his win at the 2012 International Robert Schumann Competition in the composer’s hometown of Zwickau\, he was a laureate at the 2016 Queen Elisabeth Piano Competition and the 2018 Leeds International Piano Competition\, as well as a finalist at the 2015 International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. \nAljoša has appeared as a soloist and with orchestras at prominent venues in around 40 countries across five continents\, including New York’s Carnegie Hall\, Wiener Musikverein\, Salle Cortot in Paris\, Gasteig in Munich\, Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall\, Osaka Symphony Hall\, La Sala Verdi in Milan\, BOZAR in Brussels\, Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb\, and many others. Further highlights include a 35-day solo recital tour across China and five sold-out performances in a row of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in Croatia. \nHis music is featured on six albums\, including three solo releases: Chopin Alive (CristoforiumArt\, 2016)\, Correspondances (KNS Classical\, 2020)\, and Chopin: Sonatas No. 2 and No. 3 (Longplay Classical\, 2025). A sought-after chamber musician\, Aljoša has collaborated with world-renowned musicians such as Kian Soltani (cello)\, Luka Šulić (cello)\, Petrit Çeku (guitar)\, and Krešimir Stražanac (bass-baritone)\, to name a few. In 2019\, the president of Croatia awarded him the Order of the Morning Star for outstanding achievements in culture and the international promotion of his country. \nAljoša holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree from the University of Toronto and a Konzertexamen from the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar. SUMMARY:Workshop: Needle-felt a Coral Reef
DESCRIPTION:Expert needle-felter\, fiber artist\, and storyteller Hillary Dow of Binding Tales will lead this fun workshop at the Gilley\, guiding participants through the process of creating a felted coral reef wall hanging. This workshop is suitable for all skill levels including beginners. \nLearn needle felting techniques as you transform puffy piles of wool into a vivid and dynamic coral reef that features several types of coral in a variety of colors with dark shadows and 3D depth. Your wool supplies will include a 5×7 wool pre-felt; blue\, purple\, green and coral blended batts; and solid color roving. All the felting tools necessary to create your piece are provided\, including several sizes of felting needles\, single and multi-needle tools\, finger guards\, and a felting pad. The rich variety of prepared colors allows for a painterly approach to needle felting. All the wool used in this project is sourced from Maine fiber farms. \nHillary will display an author-illustrator showcase of original artwork as well as her children’s books\, which will be available for sale. She is the author\, illustrator and publisher of Binding Tales books\, featuring pictures she has needle felted with wool sourced from Maine sheep. Born and raised in the western mountains of Maine\, she now lives with her family in Hampden.

Songs both sacred and secular\, large and small\, celebrate the miracles of nature\, of love\, and of God. \nPurcell’s In these delightful pleasant groves depicts the ever-miraculous return of “cheerful Spring.” Orlando Gibbons’s The Silver Swan and Jakob Arkadelt’s Il bianco e dolce cigno meditate on the beautiful dying song of a heretofore voiceless swan. Pieces by Mozart\, Byrd\, and Francisco López Capillas speak of the miracle of the Resurrection\, while works by Josquin\, Lassus\, and Gjeilo marvel at the promise of mercy. Jonah’s Prayer\, by VoXX Music Director John Mehrmann\, is a hopeful retelling of Jonah’s escape from his fishy prison. Two other contemporary pieces–When the Earth Stands Still\, by Don Macdonald\, and The Peace of Wild Things\, a setting of a Wendell Berry poem by Matthew J. Olson–offer promise of the hope and peace to be found in the nature. These are all miracles\, caught and celebrated in gorgeous music from the 1500s to the present century. \nVoXX began in the early part of this century as Ave Maris Stella\, a group of passionate singers who gathered in living rooms to challenge themselves with early\, a cappella music. With a fistful of bananas\, Chucky rides into town on his trusty goat for a showdown with Big Bad Bart and his gang of bandits.” Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers is a small puppetry troupe based in Bar Harbor consisting of three siblings – Erik and Brian Torbeck and Robin Erlandsen. They write and create all the shows they perform and have received three Citations of Excellence from UNIMA-USA\, the highest national award in puppetry.
