SUMMARY:Music & Movement Storytime
DESCRIPTION:Music and Movement Storytime is back for the summer! Starting Monday\, June 15 at 10:30 a.m. preschool kids and their caregivers are invited to join Ms. Jen each week at the Blue Hill Public Library for Music and Movement Storytime. We will sing songs\, play instruments\, dance\, and read stories. The rhythms\, rhymes\, and patterns in music and the use of musical instruments provide fun ways to practice skills that have a direct connection with early literacy. This weekly program will share a selection of the many children’s books and stories that have connections with music\, sound\, and movement. \nFor more information\, contact Jen at jen.rosenthal@bhpl.net or 374-5515. This program series was made possible by gifts from generous donors.

SUMMARY:FREE All About the Opera with Nathaniel Meyer\, Isaac Bray\, Katelyn Parker Bray\, and Christina Spurling
DESCRIPTION:Maestro Nathaniel Meyer of the New Opera Company of Boston will give a behind-the-scenes look and sneak peek at the 2026 BHMF Opera Production – the Mozart Double Bill of Bastien-Bastiènne and The Impresario. The quirky and unconventional spirit of Mozart the man comes through in this comical production. Hear insights about the company’s creative process writing the new libretto (the original was lost)\, learn about the exciting award-winning cast of singers and actors\, with striking analysis of the music and live performances of arias by Isaac Bray and Katelyn Parker Bray. \nAmerican conductor\, Nathaniel Meyer has conducted in France\, Germany\, Spain\, the United Kingdom\, Italy\, the Czech Republic\, Estonia\, Romania\, South America\, and throughout the United States. With the Du Bois Orchestra\, Meyer was one of the first American conductors to champion the works of forgotten African American composers such as Florence Price and Margaret Bonds\, rediscovering long-lost scores and giving the Boston and world premieres of pieces such as the oratorio\, Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight by Florence Price. He is also an accomplished trumpet player\, and the winner of the National Trumpet Competition and International Trumpet Guild Competition. The Boston Globe described him as “outstanding in the prominent trumpet part\, playing with spirit\, accuracy\, feeling\, and beautiful tone”. As a conductor\, Meyer has been described as “Talented and Charismatic…a new\, dynamic Leonard Bernstein” (Belmont Citizen-Herald) and possessing “the musical imagination and the physical gifts of a born conductor…he led the final section of Tchaikovsky’s Overture-Fantasy with power\, passion and pertinence\, building an overwhelming climax at the crest of the love theme. The audience and the orchestra burst into applause and cheers.” (Boston Globe music critic\, Richard Dyer). \nIsaac Bray has performed as a featured soloist on opera and concert stages throughout the United States and internationally\, most notably at Florida Grand Opera\, Boston Lyric Opera\, and Central City Opera. SUMMARY:It’s A Wrap – Weaving Around Rocks
DESCRIPTION:Round-and-round\, over-and-under\, front-to-back . . . beach stones\, leather cord\, beeswax. \nThe serene and meditative practice of wrapping rocks comes from Japan but has been brought into the light by ‘wrappers’ all around the world. The process involves a combination of artistic skill\, patience and attention to detail\, with the result of producing an aesthetically pleasing stone that is satisfying to hold; the simple pattern makes the most elegant statement; less is more. \nMaine has an abundance of stones\, especially well-rounded ones—easy for beach-combing in search of the perfect shape; ideal for the task at hand. \nThis 2-day class will introduce students to this traditional art form. Each participant can expect to finish up with a number of completed pieces\, and the knowledge to continue moving forward with the practice on their own. Bring several smooth round beach stones and a flat-head screwdriver. All other materials will be provided. No experience necessary.
