SUMMARY:Underwater Opera Youth Theatre Camp
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our “first ever” week-long Youth Theatre Camp. This camp is centered on Smithereen Farm and Greenhorns’ Reversing Hall Agrarian Library and led by a group of young and highly motivated theatre professionals from New York and California who share our ethos of bioregionalism\, self determination and youth empowerment. \nAt the heart of the camp is holistic\, uninhibited creativity. In the incredible marine and riverine habitats of our area\, children will find natural inspiration to create their own theatrical performance about the eco-system. Your child will learn creative skills by helping build an artistic community and immersing themselves in an environment of rivers and bays\, of seas and beaches\, barrens\, and bogs.\nGuided by instructors with backgrounds in theatre\, clowning\, and education\, your child will learn the basic elements of theatre through daily acting\, singing\, movement\, and improv classes. Each day will be filled with outdoor excursions in which your child will integrate their learning by singing to the trees and dancing with the water. The day camp will culminate in a final showcase for friends and family — a student-driven show that utilizes an incredible handpainted underwater backdrop created by the Artists’ Rapid Response Team during the www.ForAlltheFish.org campaign earlier this spring.\nAll are welcome to join us for the performance at the end: a youth-led tale of the marine heritage\, comedy/tragedy\, prospects and particularities of this place and moment in time. Amidst theatrical instruction and show development\, students will learn about the ecological history of their area through guided study at Greenhorns Agrarian Library. We’ll learn from atlases\, field guides\, indigenous accounts of encounters with settlers\, from wild food cookbooks\, as well as many other formats. We’ll focus on cod\, pollock\, alewives\, sardines\, clams… all will inspire the costumes and set design.\nWant to bring the whole family? We can help you find accommodations if needed. \nUnderwater Opera is designed for youth ages 7-13 and meets during the day only. Cost is $640 for the full week which includes lunch.

Students will learn how to paint water\, rocks\, and trees to create their own watercolor landscape\, surrounded by mountains\, a working harbor\, and the sea. Erika has a unique style of teaching that encourages watercolor students to play and experiment with their art. It’s an easy walk\, with options for painting down on the rocks or near a flat picnic area. Bring your supplies and a chair/towel for sitting on\, plus a easel. Developing his performing skills he never aspired the career of a musician however a competitive spirit and his ever rising interest to music played a role. Initially Pyotr entered the Moscow Central Music School then continued his musical education at the Gnessin Moscow Special School of Music with his Professor Maxim Zheleznov. \nThe 2023 Thomas and Evon Cooper Competition brought a new vibe to Pyotr’s musical growth. The success in this contest gave him a brilliant opportunity to join the studio of Professor Stanislav Ioudenitch at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music as a student. \nIn different years Pyotr was taking classes with recognised masters such as Dmitry Bashkirov\, Vladimir Ovchinnikov\, William Grant Naboré\, Rena Shereshevskaya\, Boris Petrushansky\, Emanuel Ax. \nHe has been a scholar of the Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation and the NEW NAMES Foundation. \nPyotr has been involved in a variety of solo and orchestral performances in Russia and worldwide. He used to be a participant of multiple musical projects and cultural events among which could be highlighted The Mstislav Rostropovich Festival\, White Nights in St. Petersburg\, The Crescendo\, The Stars on the Baikal\, The Rachmaninoff White Lilac (Kazan)\, Mikkeli Music Festival\, St. Petersburg Arts Square Festival\, PIANISSIMO\, ViveArte Festival etc. \nAs a soloist Pyotr collaborated with different orchestras including The Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra\, The SVETLANOV Symphony Orchestra\, The Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra\, The Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra\, The Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra\, The Volgograd Symphony Orchestra\, The Salzburg Chamber Soloists\, The Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra\, The Cleveland Orchestra\, The Macao Orchestra. He is an eager chamber music performer. \nIn 2021/2022 Pyotr debuted with his recital programs at the venues of the Moscow and St. Petersburg Philharmonic Societies. DESCRIPTION:Buck Memorial Library welcomes Claire Acroyd\, a published author as well as a landscape & garden designer. \n​Raised in England among the best traditions of English gardening\, in a large house with a large garden and a large family. 25 years ago she began doing inspections for organic certification for the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA)\, and this is where she found the impetus to write a story. \nHer inspection work provided her with a unique look into the operations of the maple syrup industry and the people who toil in order to bring sugary sweetness to our tables. From that\, “Murder in the Maple Woods” and its follow up\, “Body in the Blueberry Barrens” were born. \nHer books will be available for purchase from Bookstacks.

DESCRIPTION:PMM is excited to welcome guest chanteyman Stephen Sanfilippo for our August and September Chantey Singalongs. He’ll lead sea songs and chanteys on the concertina\, many with catchy choruses for everyone to join in. Drop in for a few songs or stay for the whole evening—sing along or just listen. Stephen will also share stories and background on how chanteys were used as work songs at sea. All ages are welcome\, and no experience is needed.  \nStephen Sanfilippo has been researching and performing historic songs of the maritime trades since the early 1970s. A U.S. Navy veteran\, he earned his Ph.D. in History\, and taught Maritime History through Songs of the Sea at Maine Maritime Academy for many years. He has been leading the monthly Chantey Sing in Pembroke\, Maine\, for 18 years\, and has performed concerts and presented lectures from Virginia to Maritime Canada. Stephen has performed many times at the Penobscot Marine Museum\, beginning in 1984 when he provided music for the opening of the original “Lobstering & the Maine Coast” exhibit.

Through decades of exploration\, her practice has evolved from appliqué to airbrush and machine quilting\, and ultimately to oil painting. With Water’s Embrace\, Finch shares her ongoing pursuit of something beyond the visual representation of water: its movement\, sensation\, atmosphere\, and transformative power. \nFor Finch\, water is not simply a subject. It is an immersive experience. She shares its fluidity\, the salt on her lips\, the wind in her hair\, the droplets of fog on her face\, and the sensation of surrendering herself to the water. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a panel discussion offering a critical examination of Maine’s historical and legal relationship with the Wabanaki Nations. \nDrawing on archival records—including the 1942 Maine Legislative Research Committee hearings—and landmark court decisions such as Murch v. Tomer and State v. Newell\, the discussion reveals how law and policy were deliberately shaped to control\, diminish\, and deny Wabanaki sovereignty. Through a combination of historical narrative and legal analysis\, the panel explores what the authors describe as “genocide by jurisprudence”—the use of law as a tool of dispossession—and the enduring consequences of those decisions today. \nThe panel brings together Chief Judge\, Penobscot Nation Tribal Court\, Hon. Eric M. Mehnert; Tribal Appellate Judge\, Hon. Joseph G.E. Gousse\, Attorney\, Berman & Simmons; and Hon. Donna M. Loring\, Penobscot Nation Elder and former Representative\, Maine State Legislature. Each panelist brings a distinct perspective: judicial insight from the Tribal Courts\, lived experience in state government\, and a shared commitment to truth-telling grounded in the historical record. Together\, they will examine how these “paper chains” were forged—and what it will take to break them. \nFollowing the panel at 6:30 p.m\, participants are invited to continue the conversation next door at the Abbe Museum\, where the exhibit “In the Shadow of the Eagle” offers a powerful visual and cultural companion to the issues discussed. Late summer’s most prominent constellations are suspended within its pale glow. \nAmateur astronomer Richard Luecke will take you on an indoor 50-minute image-enhanced journey along that river of starlight and introduce you to summer’s most prominent constellations. You’ll learn to identify Perseus\, Cassiopeia and Andromeda\, Cygnus the Swan\, and Aquila\, Zeus’s pet eagle. Your journey will end in the constellation Sagittarius\, which marks the heart of the Milky Way Galaxy. It glistens with star clusters and glowing clouds of interstellar gas that even our naked eyes can perceive in Schoodic’s dark sky. \nWe will meet in Moore Auditorium on Schoodic Institute’s campus first. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our “first ever” week-long Youth Theatre Camp. This camp is centered on Smithereen Farm and Greenhorns’ Reversing Hall Agrarian Library and led by a group of young and highly motivated theatre professionals from New York and California who share our ethos of bioregionalism\, self determination and youth empowerment. \nAt the heart of the camp is holistic\, uninhibited creativity. In the incredible marine and riverine habitats of our area\, children will find natural inspiration to create their own theatrical performance about the eco-system. Your child will learn creative skills by helping build an artistic community and immersing themselves in an environment of rivers and bays\, of seas and beaches\, barrens\, and bogs.\nGuided by instructors with backgrounds in theatre\, clowning\, and education\, your child will learn the basic elements of theatre through daily acting\, singing\, movement\, and improv classes. Each day will be filled with outdoor excursions in which your child will integrate their learning by singing to the trees and dancing with the water. The day camp will culminate in a final showcase for friends and family — a student-driven show that utilizes an incredible handpainted underwater backdrop created by the Artists’ Rapid Response Team during the www.ForAlltheFish.org campaign earlier this spring.\nAll are welcome to join us for the performance at the end: a youth-led tale of the marine heritage\, comedy/tragedy\, prospects and particularities of this place and moment in time. Amidst theatrical instruction and show development\, students will learn about the ecological history of their area through guided study at Greenhorns Agrarian Library. We’ll learn from atlases\, field guides\, indigenous accounts of encounters with settlers\, from wild food cookbooks\, as well as many other formats. We’ll focus on cod\, pollock\, alewives\, sardines\, clams… all will inspire the costumes and set design.\nWant to bring the whole family? We can help you find accommodations if needed. \nUnderwater Opera is designed for youth ages 7-13 and meets during the day only. Cost is $640 for the full week which includes lunch.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for our monthly evening paint ‘n’ sip workshops with instructor Erika Elizabeth at the Gilley for a fun evening of learning and art. Students are guided step by step through the process of painting\, with plenty of explanation and instruction along the way. \nEach month has a different theme and inspiration-painting. For September\, we’ll be a re-creating rock cairns in watecolor. \nSip on wine\, tea or seltzer as part of this adults-only class\, which is suitable for artists of all levels who are at least 21 years old. All materials and beverages provided.

SUMMARY:Danny Fisher-Lochhead Large Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:The Danny Fisher-Lochhead Large Ensemble was born in Brooklyn\, NY in 2013 with a much different cast of characters\, except for the stalwart Ross Gallagher who has held it down in every version of this band. When Danny moved to Downeast Maine in 2015 seeking a new logic to his life and musical pursuits\, he started to slowly lay the groundwork and musical will to re-assemble this project. In 2023 this version of the group came into being\, and in 2025 they released their album World of Difference on Fishkill Records. This band is made up of some of the most exciting improvising musicians in the state\, and the music they make together\, while it bears the markings of its roots in the Jazz tradition\, is distinctly on its own terrain. The result is alive\, richly textured\, rhythmically grounded and complex\, ecstatic\, and deeply connected to the body and the emotions. No previous expertise required.
