DESCRIPTION:Music and Movement Storytime is back for the summer! Starting Monday\, June 15 at 10:30 a.m. preschool kids and their caregivers are invited to join Ms. Jen each week at the Blue Hill Public Library for Music and Movement Storytime. We will sing songs\, play instruments\, dance\, and read stories. The rhythms\, rhymes\, and patterns in music and the use of musical instruments provide fun ways to practice skills that have a direct connection with early literacy. In the Pans at the East Blue Hill town park on Curtis Cove Road. This family-friendly\, alcohol-free event is a chance to gather and dance for a good cause. Half of the gate proceeds will benefit East Blue Hill Library operations. Beginning at 6:30 p.m.\, food and drinks will be available for cash purchase. The Darling’s Ice Cream for a Cause truck\, cash or check only\, will also be on site. The pan dance will start at 7:30 p.m. and last until 9:00 p.m. Suggested minimum donation is $5 per person. SUMMARY:People-Nature-Art with sculptor and photographer Alex Turanski
DESCRIPTION:Alex Turanski began balancing stones (never in the national park!) in 2018 as a therapeutic practice. It was a way to exercise pure\, raw focus and to dissolve his distractions. “The act of balance fully engages me in the raw present-moment\,” he says. “In a way\, I feel that I become as present and still as the stones I engage with. I often try to find the most difficult balance points as a way to push myself deeper into a meditative practice of mind-body coordination.” Alex is the People-Nature-Art featured artist for July. \nJoin him at the Gilley on Tuesday\, July 28 for an artist’s reception at 6pm followed at 7pm by a presentation and live demonstration of his work. Alex will start with an overview of the art form and its connection to nature for him. Then he will proceed to a live demonstration and create an original sculpture inside the Gilley. There is no fee to attend\, but registration is requested to facilitate staging of this event. His repertoire has grown to include live demonstrations and installations\, designing and producing his signature Rock Stack Playing Cards\, creating one-of-a-kind rock stack puzzle sets\, and filming and editing balancing videos. He received the award for Best Set Design for the stonework he created and installed for the Isle Theatre Company’s production of Do Not Move Stones\, which also won the Broadway World 2021 Maine Awards for Best Production of the Year.

DESCRIPTION:In connection with the current exhibition and new book By Design: The Worlds of Betsy James Wyeth\, a collaboration between the Farnsworth Art Museum\, the Colby College Museum of Art\, and the Brandywine Museum of Art\, the director of the Farnsworth’s Wyeth Study Center\, Dr. William L. Coleman shares new discoveries about the often overlooked designer and creative advisor who was a precondition for the paintings of her husband\, the artist Andrew Wyeth. Contexts will include her first major designed environment in Pennsylvania\, Brinton’s Mill\, her key role in the preservation and interpretation of Cushing’s Olson House of Christina’s World fame\, and her wholesale transformation of Southern\, Allen\, and Benner Islands\, Maine. This talk will share rarely seen images of her carefully crafted landscapes\, buildings\, and interiors\, along with the paintings they inspired.
