SUMMARY:Points North Presents Fourth Thursday Documentary Screenings
DESCRIPTION:In March\, Points North\, the nonprofit organization behind the Camden International Film Festival (CIFF)\, launched Points North Presents\, a monthly screening series in collaboration with the Strand Theatre. Fourth Thursday documentary screenings continue throughout the Summer leading up until the festival September 17-20. Points North Presents brings some of the year’s best documentaries to Midcoast Maine\, with each screening followed by a community conversation intended to create space for genuine exchange between artwork\, artists\, and local audiences. \nThe Summer slate kicks off with Felipe Bustos Sierra’s Everybody to Kenmure Street on June 25 which includes a post-screening panel discussion produced in partnership with the ACLU Maine. It is followed by Oscar-nominated director Sara Dosa’s Time and Water\, on July 23 and Penny Lane’s Wild Inside on August 27\, both will have facilitated community discussions. \nPoints North will also host a special second screening of Sara Dosa’s Time and Water at 7pm on Friday\, July 24 on North Haven Island\, at Waterman’s Community Center. \nTickets to Rockland and North Haven events can be purchased on Points North’s website at https://pointsnorthinstitute.org/community/points-north-presents/. \nAnd for those attending screenings at the Strand\, conclude your Points North Presents experience with a night cap and recap of the film next door at Lemon Bar. \nPoints North Presents is produced in collaboration with The Strand. Support for the program is generously provided by The Dave Nichols Charitable Trust\, with media support from Midcoast Villager. The series is a program of Points North\, extending the organization’s commitment to advancing the art\, artists\, and audiences of cinematic nonfiction storytelling throughout the year. \nSummer 2026 Lineup \nJune 25\, 7:00pm\nEverybody to Kenmure Street\, dir. Felipe Bustos Sierra\, 2026\nOn Eid morning in Glasgow\, a dawn immigration raid triggers one of the most spontaneous and successful acts of civil resistance in recent memory. In Scotland’s most diverse neighborhood\, hundreds of residents rush to the streets to stop the deportation of their neighbors. \nJuly 23\, 7:00pm\nTime and Water\, dir. Sara Dosa\, 2026\nFacing the death of his country’s glaciers and the loss of his beloved grandparents\, Icelandic writer Andri Snær Magnason turns his archives into a time capsule to hold what is slipping away — family\, memory\, time\, and water. Penny Lane\, 2026\nIn 2023\, Flaco — a male Eurasian eagle-owl\, the largest species of owl in the world — was discovered missing from his cage at the Central Park Zoo. SUMMARY:Monthly Sea Chantey Singalongs- Guest Chanteyman
DESCRIPTION:PMM is excited to welcome guest chanteyman Stephen Sanfilippo for our August and September Chantey Singalongs. He’ll lead sea songs and chanteys on the concertina\, many with catchy choruses for everyone to join in. Drop in for a few songs or stay for the whole evening—sing along or just listen. Stephen will also share stories and background on how chanteys were used as work songs at sea. All ages are welcome\, and no experience is needed.  \nStephen Sanfilippo has been researching and performing historic songs of the maritime trades since the early 1970s. A U.S. Navy veteran\, he earned his Ph.D. in History\, and taught Maritime History through Songs of the Sea at Maine Maritime Academy for many years. He has been leading the monthly Chantey Sing in Pembroke\, Maine\, for 18 years\, and has performed concerts and presented lectures from Virginia to Maritime Canada. Stephen has performed many times at the Penobscot Marine Museum\, beginning in 1984 when he provided music for the opening of the original “Lobstering & the Maine Coast” exhibit.
