DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our “first ever” week-long Youth Theatre Camp. This camp is centered on Smithereen Farm and Greenhorns’ Reversing Hall Agrarian Library and led by a group of young and highly motivated theatre professionals from New York and California who share our ethos of bioregionalism\, self determination and youth empowerment. \nAt the heart of the camp is holistic\, uninhibited creativity. In the incredible marine and riverine habitats of our area\, children will find natural inspiration to create their own theatrical performance about the eco-system. Your child will learn creative skills by helping build an artistic community and immersing themselves in an environment of rivers and bays\, of seas and beaches\, barrens\, and bogs.\nGuided by instructors with backgrounds in theatre\, clowning\, and education\, your child will learn the basic elements of theatre through daily acting\, singing\, movement\, and improv classes. Each day will be filled with outdoor excursions in which your child will integrate their learning by singing to the trees and dancing with the water. The day camp will culminate in a final showcase for friends and family — a student-driven show that utilizes an incredible handpainted underwater backdrop created by the Artists’ Rapid Response Team during the www.ForAlltheFish.org campaign earlier this spring.\nAll are welcome to join us for the performance at the end: a youth-led tale of the marine heritage\, comedy/tragedy\, prospects and particularities of this place and moment in time. Amidst theatrical instruction and show development\, students will learn about the ecological history of their area through guided study at Greenhorns Agrarian Library. We’ll learn from atlases\, field guides\, indigenous accounts of encounters with settlers\, from wild food cookbooks\, as well as many other formats. We’ll focus on cod\, pollock\, alewives\, sardines\, clams… all will inspire the costumes and set design.\nWant to bring the whole family? We can help you find accommodations if needed. \nUnderwater Opera is designed for youth ages 7-13 and meets during the day only. Cost is $640 for the full week which includes lunch.

Come celebrate Trent’s life at Black Moon Public House in Ellsworth that evening from 6-9 pm. \n \nThe Crown Vics will perform in Trent’s honor and would love to have people there to celebrate Trent with them! \nTrent’s friends are inviting memorial donations be made to WERU at https://weru.org/donate/\, or by mailing checks to WERU\, PO Box 170\, East Orland\, ME 04431-0170\, with “In Memory of Trent Pettison” in the memo line or include a note with your check. \nTrent’s Obituary: \nTrent A. Pettison II of Hancock Maine went home to his Lord Jesus Christ on July 10\, 2026. He was born on March 7\, 1961 in Lowell\, Connecticut\, son of Trent and Elaine. Trent is survived by his son\, Trent Pettison III\, his brothers\, Todd Fairchild (Donna)\, Cyril Roberts (Crystal) and sister\, Schelle Roberts. He is also survived by many friends and a community that loved him. \nTrent was a man that lived the way he wanted\, simple. He didn’t care about possessions\, he cared about people. He only knew one way to live\, to love and cherish every day\, and everyone! He loved his nation and would fly the American flag on the side of Franklin Road on a regular basis. He was a man that couldn’t go to a simple convenience store without acknowledging every person there. Trent loved talking about music and would educate people on obscure bands and of course\, the local music scene. When the conversation would come to an end\, Trent would conclude with a friendly smile and peace sign saying\, “Peace\, Love and Woodstock.” \nTrent was a proud Navy Veteran who received many awards and medals for his service which include\, Good Conduct Medal\, Navy Expeditionary Medal\, National Defense Service Medal\, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon\, Navy Rifleman Marksmanship Ribbon along with 3 bronze stars. \nTrent gave his heart to each and every person he’s ever met. Consider yourself blessed for knowing him. Consider yourself blessed if he made you smile as he was waving the American flag. Trent will be deeply missed and will never be forgotten\, so for now Trent\, until we meet again\, “Peace\, Love and Woodstock!” We love you! \nTrent’s service will be Friday September 25\, 2026 at 11am at Acadia National Cemetery in Jonesboro ME. That evening\, there will be a celebration of life at Black Moon Public House in Ellsworth from 6-9pm. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our “first ever” week-long Youth Theatre Camp. This camp is centered on Smithereen Farm and Greenhorns’ Reversing Hall Agrarian Library and led by a group of young and highly motivated theatre professionals from New York and California who share our ethos of bioregionalism\, self determination and youth empowerment. \nAt the heart of the camp is holistic\, uninhibited creativity. In the incredible marine and riverine habitats of our area\, children will find natural inspiration to create their own theatrical performance about the eco-system. Your child will learn creative skills by helping build an artistic community and immersing themselves in an environment of rivers and bays\, of seas and beaches\, barrens\, and bogs.\nGuided by instructors with backgrounds in theatre\, clowning\, and education\, your child will learn the basic elements of theatre through daily acting\, singing\, movement\, and improv classes. Each day will be filled with outdoor excursions in which your child will integrate their learning by singing to the trees and dancing with the water. The day camp will culminate in a final showcase for friends and family — a student-driven show that utilizes an incredible handpainted underwater backdrop created by the Artists’ Rapid Response Team during the www.ForAlltheFish.org campaign earlier this spring.\nAll are welcome to join us for the performance at the end: a youth-led tale of the marine heritage\, comedy/tragedy\, prospects and particularities of this place and moment in time. Amidst theatrical instruction and show development\, students will learn about the ecological history of their area through guided study at Greenhorns Agrarian Library. We’ll learn from atlases\, field guides\, indigenous accounts of encounters with settlers\, from wild food cookbooks\, as well as many other formats. We’ll focus on cod\, pollock\, alewives\, sardines\, clams… all will inspire the costumes and set design.\nWant to bring the whole family? We can help you find accommodations if needed. \nUnderwater Opera is designed for youth ages 7-13 and meets during the day only. Cost is $640 for the full week which includes lunch.

DESCRIPTION:The Blue Café series at Camden Opera House welcomes back talented jazz pianist\, composer\, and educator Myles Kelley on Wednesday\, September 23\, at 7:30 p.m. for an intimate acoustic performance in the Opera House’s third-floor listening room.\nA graduate of the University of Maine\, Kelley is deeply rooted in Maine’s midcoast music scene. He leads the Myles Kelley Trio and has performed at venues including the Farnsworth Art Museum and Bistro La Cave in Camden\, as well as several Jazz in June festivals at Camden Opera House. Kelley’s original instrumental music blends improvisation\, groove\, and passion\, creating performances that are both dynamic and engaging. In addition to performing\, Kelley shares his expertise as an instructor of piano\, jazz theory\, and music production at the Maine Academy of Modern Music.\nFor this special Blue Café performance\, Kelley will perform acoustically on Camden Opera House’s 1941 Baby Steinway M piano\, offering audiences an up-close opportunity to experience his musicianship in the intimate listening-room setting.\nBlue Café performances are free and open to the public\, with donations to the Community Arts Fund gratefully accepted. SUMMARY:People-Nature-Art with Sculptor Spencer Tinkham
DESCRIPTION:Spencer Tinkham is a self-taught\, award-winning American wood sculptor and multidisciplinary artist known for creating intricate macro- and micro-sculptures of birds and wildlife from reclaimed and salvaged material. His paintings\, sculptures\, and installations explore perception\, ecological change\, and natural history. \nThe Gilley is thrilled to bring him to Maine in September as the museum’s People-Nature-Art presenter. While here\, he will be working with children in local schools. \nWorking with carved wood\, painting\, and installation\, Tinkham creates forms that move between realism and abstraction. Through scale\, repetition\, and material tension\, his work transforms patterns found in nature into physical encounters that connect biological form with human emotion. Rather than depicting the natural world directly\, the work shifts familiar forms into psychologically charged states\, inviting viewers to reconsider how they perceive and relate to the living world. \nThe ecological fates of birds and humans are intertwined\,” he says. “I share specific stories of birds as a witness to natural and manmade change. Their fragile beauty and unsung voices become magnified so as not to be missed by the careless eye.”

Your child will learn creative skills by helping build an artistic community and immersing themselves in an environment of rivers and bays\, of seas and beaches\, barrens\, and bogs.\nGuided by instructors with backgrounds in theatre\, clowning\, and education\, your child will learn the basic elements of theatre through daily acting\, singing\, movement\, and improv classes. Each day will be filled with outdoor excursions in which your child will integrate their learning by singing to the trees and dancing with the water. The day camp will culminate in a final showcase for friends and family — a student-driven show that utilizes an incredible handpainted underwater backdrop created by the Artists’ Rapid Response Team during the www.ForAlltheFish.org campaign earlier this spring.\nAll are welcome to join us for the performance at the end: a youth-led tale of the marine heritage\, comedy/tragedy\, prospects and particularities of this place and moment in time. Amidst theatrical instruction and show development\, students will learn about the ecological history of their area through guided study at Greenhorns Agrarian Library. We’ll learn from atlases\, field guides\, indigenous accounts of encounters with settlers\, from wild food cookbooks\, as well as many other formats. We’ll focus on cod\, pollock\, alewives\, sardines\, clams… all will inspire the costumes and set design.\nWant to bring the whole family?
