SUMMARY:Skein Stitchers - Teen Fiber Club
DESCRIPTION:Teens and Tweens are invited to the Blue Hill Public Library to join “Skein Stitchers\,” a youth fiber arts group\, every Monday from 3:00-4:00 p.m. starting September 14. Participants can hang out in the Y.A. area to work on knitting\, crochet\, sewing\, embroidery\, or other fiber projects\, while socializing and sharing their projects. All experience levels are welcome. Experienced participants are welcome to bring projects with them to work on\, and there will be materials available for new projects or beginners wanting to learn how to knit or crochet. Teen Services Librarian Kendall Chapman and volunteers Arlee Morris and Alison Rudel will be available to teach participants the basics\, new stitches\, or answer questions about knitting and crochet. \nThis free program is sponsored by the library thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Library. SUMMARY:Underwater Opera Youth Theatre Camp
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our “first ever” week-long Youth Theatre Camp. This camp is centered on Smithereen Farm and Greenhorns’ Reversing Hall Agrarian Library and led by a group of young and highly motivated theatre professionals from New York and California who share our ethos of bioregionalism\, self determination and youth empowerment. \nAt the heart of the camp is holistic\, uninhibited creativity. In the incredible marine and riverine habitats of our area\, children will find natural inspiration to create their own theatrical performance about the eco-system. Your child will learn creative skills by helping build an artistic community and immersing themselves in an environment of rivers and bays\, of seas and beaches\, barrens\, and bogs.\nGuided by instructors with backgrounds in theatre\, clowning\, and education\, your child will learn the basic elements of theatre through daily acting\, singing\, movement\, and improv classes. Each day will be filled with outdoor excursions in which your child will integrate their learning by singing to the trees and dancing with the water. The day camp will culminate in a final showcase for friends and family — a student-driven show that utilizes an incredible handpainted underwater backdrop created by the Artists’ Rapid Response Team during the www.ForAlltheFish.org campaign earlier this spring.\nAll are welcome to join us for the performance at the end: a youth-led tale of the marine heritage\, comedy/tragedy\, prospects and particularities of this place and moment in time. Amidst theatrical instruction and show development\, students will learn about the ecological history of their area through guided study at Greenhorns Agrarian Library. We’ll learn from atlases\, field guides\, indigenous accounts of encounters with settlers\, from wild food cookbooks\, as well as many other formats. We’ll focus on cod\, pollock\, alewives\, sardines\, clams… all will inspire the costumes and set design.\nWant to bring the whole family? You might know her best from her work with Americana darlings Red Molly\, but Abbie Gardner centered her own gritty\, sweet tales of love and loss on her 2022 solo album DobroSinger. It reached #11 on the Billboard Blues chart. She’s a Kerrville New Folk Finalist (2025) and was nominated for Folk Alliance International’s Artist of the Year (2025). Her live show is truly unique – heartfelt vocals and warm stage presence\, backed up by top notch picking on an instrument that is more typically in the background. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our “first ever” week-long Youth Theatre Camp. This camp is centered on Smithereen Farm and Greenhorns’ Reversing Hall Agrarian Library and led by a group of young and highly motivated theatre professionals from New York and California who share our ethos of bioregionalism\, self determination and youth empowerment. \nAt the heart of the camp is holistic\, uninhibited creativity. In the incredible marine and riverine habitats of our area\, children will find natural inspiration to create their own theatrical performance about the eco-system. Your child will learn creative skills by helping build an artistic community and immersing themselves in an environment of rivers and bays\, of seas and beaches\, barrens\, and bogs.\nGuided by instructors with backgrounds in theatre\, clowning\, and education\, your child will learn the basic elements of theatre through daily acting\, singing\, movement\, and improv classes. Each day will be filled with outdoor excursions in which your child will integrate their learning by singing to the trees and dancing with the water. The day camp will culminate in a final showcase for friends and family — a student-driven show that utilizes an incredible handpainted underwater backdrop created by the Artists’ Rapid Response Team during the www.ForAlltheFish.org campaign earlier this spring.\nAll are welcome to join us for the performance at the end: a youth-led tale of the marine heritage\, comedy/tragedy\, prospects and particularities of this place and moment in time. Amidst theatrical instruction and show development\, students will learn about the ecological history of their area through guided study at Greenhorns Agrarian Library. We’ll learn from atlases\, field guides\, indigenous accounts of encounters with settlers\, from wild food cookbooks\, as well as many other formats. We’ll focus on cod\, pollock\, alewives\, sardines\, clams… all will inspire the costumes and set design.\nWant to bring the whole family? B. Yeats. The Twelve Wild Geese centers around the universal questions of loyalty and courage\, love and hope. It was published in a collection of Irish folk tales by W. Butler Yeats and has now been refashioned by David Novak and Ensemble Galilei. This marrying of music with storytelling\, the experience of watching art be created\, the joy in silliness\, all combine to create a beautiful and evocative landscape\, speaking to us all in a way that is profoundly meaningful. \nKnown for pushing the boundaries of multidisciplinary performance\, Ensemble Galilei has spent over two decades blending words\, music\, and visual art through collaborations with figures and institutions such as Neal Conan\, the Hubble Space Telescope Institute\, National Geographic\, the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, and NPR\, culminating in this deeply collaborative project with Novak. DESCRIPTION:Teens and Tweens are invited to the Blue Hill Public Library to join “Skein Stitchers\,” a youth fiber arts group\, every Monday from 3:00-4:00 p.m. starting September 14. Participants can hang out in the Y.A. area to work on knitting\, crochet\, sewing\, embroidery\, or other fiber projects\, while socializing and sharing their projects. All experience levels are welcome. Experienced participants are welcome to bring projects with them to work on\, and there will be materials available for new projects or beginners wanting to learn how to knit or crochet. Teen Services Librarian Kendall Chapman and volunteers Arlee Morris and Alison Rudel will be available to teach participants the basics\, new stitches\, or answer questions about knitting and crochet. \nThis free program is sponsored by the library thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Library. Amidst theatrical instruction and show development\, students will learn about the ecological history of their area through guided study at Greenhorns Agrarian Library. We’ll learn from atlases\, field guides\, indigenous accounts of encounters with settlers\, from wild food cookbooks\, as well as many other formats. We’ll focus on cod\, pollock\, alewives\, sardines\, clams… all will inspire the costumes and set design.\nWant to bring the whole family? We can help you find accommodations if needed. \nUnderwater Opera is designed for youth ages 7-13 and meets during the day only. Cost is $640 for the full week which includes lunch.
