WERU Community Radio’s programming a lot depends on volunteer musical interests and passions, and in that department we sure have a lot of variety. That diversity means that we have occasional shifts in our schedule and we recently have had some such changes. We’ve got some new programs in the schedule and a few current shows moving around. We’ve also got a broadcaster’s voice returning to WERU after many years away and a brand new voice taking to the airwaves! We hope our listeners enjoy the new and relocated programs.
Two great shows featuring culturally diverse music have ended with several of the hosts collaborating on a new program called Sabor Latino, which features Latin-inspired music from around the world, every Tuesday, 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. For 20 years Ric “Rico” Pomilia has grown a devoted audience on A Southern Wind in that time slot and while the program has ended he will still be on the air as one of the hosts of Sabor Latino. The other hosts of the new show are Susana Diaz and Cheo and Francine Stark from Gracias a la Vida, which was created by Marco Boshko eleven years ago and ended in January. Other hosts of Gracias a la Vida over the years have included Haydee Foreman, Sara Elena Chiri, Ivonne Vasquez, William Ryan, Jim Fisher and Mary Luz Kogson. Thanks to all of you for the great Latin music programming!
Changes on Tuesday nights: Sabor Latino with Rico, Cheo and Susana, featuring all kinds of Latin music, moves into the 8:00-10:00 p.m. slot held for many years by Rico and A Southern Wind. Cheo and Susana move over from the Gracias a la Vida show, which is no longer on the air Saturdays. Muchas gracias for a great run!
Saturdays now run like this: 1001 Arts Center Nights with Joel Katz at 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. (diverse music); Reggae Reprieve at 12:00-2:00 p.m.; Medium Rare with Kit Macchi at 2:00-3:00 p.m. (diverse music); and At the Hop with Rick Foster at 3:00-5:00 p.m. (Oldies). Rick rejoins WERU after a more that twenty-year hiatus in local commercial radio. Welcome back!
We also are happy to introduce a new, locally-produced short feature that explores the wonders of nature’s calendar, Mainely Phenology with Hazel Stark, which will air every Saturday morning at 8:30-8:35 a.m. Welcome aboard, Hazel!
We hope you enjoy the new additions!
