DESCRIPTION:Everyone is invited to the Blue Hill Public Library for a talk with author Alice Hotopp and artist Coco Faber on their new book Atlas of Kinship: Stories of Connection Between Seabirds\, People\, and Place on Thursday\, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. Alice and Coco will give a short talk\, share a few readings\, and end with a Q&A. \nAlice received a seed grant from the American Bird Conservancy to write these essays and field biologist Coco Faber created beautiful artwork to go with them. \nBlue Hill Books will be on site with copies of the book available for purchase. SUMMARY:Talking Trash: Municipal WasteHub and Blue Hill's Waste
DESCRIPTION:What happens to the trash in Blue Hill? Reagan Emmerling\, Education and Outreach Coordinator at the Municipal WasteHub\, will be at the Blue Hill Public Library on Monday\, September 14 at 1:00 p.m. to share the ins and outs of recycling. MunicipalWasteHub\, a non-profit organization that manages Blue Hill’s trash\, operates a full-service waste/recycling facility. The facility can take in unsorted community waste and use sophisticated machinery to sort the trash to pull out any recyclable materials\, keeping a lot of waste out of landfills. Reagan will share how each machine works\, what materials it recycles\, and talk about waste generation and recycling practices in our modern world. \nThis program is free and open to the public and will be held in the library’s Howard Room. SUMMARY:Kairos Module Six: The Coming Community
DESCRIPTION:The Blue Hill Public Library will continue Kairos\, a series of readings and discussions\, with Denis Sweet\, a retired professor at Bates College. This sixth module in the series\, The Coming Community\, will meet once a week for three months (thirteen sessions) on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. in the library’s Howard Room from September 8 to December 1. Topics of discussion will include: Friedrich Nietzsche’s “Thus Spoke Zarathustra\,” Joan Halifax’s “The Fruitful Darkness\,” and Stephen Harrod Buhner’s Becoming Vegetalista.” A number of copies will be available at the library to check out. \nTo facilitate discussion\, the number of participants is limited to twelve and registration is required.
