SUMMARY:Expanded Cinema at The Cannery
DESCRIPTION:Chicago rap artist and electro-noiser AQ comes to Maine\, re-uniting with 16mm film manipulator George Schaefer (photodeath_) for some deep sonic and visual experimentation. Joined in the zone by fellow Chicago sound man Nick Yeck-Stauffer on horn and electronics\, this program promises the spectrum of sights in a mesh of aural landscape that has defined this collaboration through a decade of work. Performances occurring Friday\, August 21\, 630pm at Bon Vent Cider in Hancock\, and Saturday\, August 22\, 630pm at The Cannery in South Penobscot. \nAQ\, most known for rap\, began collecting vinyl\, practicing turntablism\, DJing\, and making beats in the late 90’s. He dove into noise via an interest in the vintage electronics that made early hip-hop and house music\, often incorporating loops\, scaratches\, grooves\, and occasional raps into performances. He is currently a Dark Matter Resident at Elastic Arts. Hear more at aq-il on bandcamp or mraquil on youtube. \nNick Yeck-Stauffer is co-founder of Midwaste Records and a noise sesh trumpeteer on numerous jams and recordings\, recently sounding out on the road in Japan. He and George and crew ran Midwaste Space Peoples\, an independent project and performance space in E Garfield Park\, Chicago noted for experimental electronics and bass. \nPhotodeath is the moniker of Sullivan artist and builder George Schaefer. His film work primarily involves 16mm\, hand-manipulated and tape-spliced\, constructed as loops and longer-form montage. His monstrous little films project is a changing corpus of found\, acquired\, constructed\, and photographed 16mm\, on multiple projectors with processed sound.
