DESCRIPTION:Victorians loved decorating and crafting with nature and that includes using shells. This workshop will include a visit to the Penobscot Marine Museum’s Merithew House to get inspired by shell art pieces on exhibit. Then participants will create their own shell art. There will be a huge variety of shells\, plus sand\, seeds\, and beads. Participants can choose whether they want to make a shell wreath\, picture frame\, sailors’ valentine\, or a rectangular piece. All materials are provided. \nTeens attending both morning and afternoon workshops can bring a brown bag lunch and eat it on campus or leave campus to enjoy lunch from a nearby business. \nFlexible Pricing\nTo make our programming available more widely\, we are happy to offer three flexible pricing options. DESCRIPTION:PMM is excited to welcome guest chanteyman Stephen Sanfilippo for our August and September Chantey Singalongs. He’ll lead sea songs and chanteys on the concertina\, many with catchy choruses for everyone to join in. Drop in for a few songs or stay for the whole evening—sing along or just listen. Stephen will also share stories and background on how chanteys were used as work songs at sea. All ages are welcome\, and no experience is needed.  \nStephen Sanfilippo has been researching and performing historic songs of the maritime trades since the early 1970s. A U.S. Navy veteran\, he earned his Ph.D. in History\, and taught Maritime History through Songs of the Sea at Maine Maritime Academy for many years. He has been leading the monthly Chantey Sing in Pembroke\, Maine\, for 18 years\, and has performed concerts and presented lectures from Virginia to Maritime Canada. Stephen has performed many times at the Penobscot Marine Museum\, beginning in 1984 when he provided music for the opening of the original “Lobstering & the Maine Coast” exhibit.

SUMMARY:Twilight Tours at Penobscot Marine Museum
DESCRIPTION:Meet the spirits of those lost at sea—a shipwreck\, a waterspout\, Confederates\, yellow fever\, and a menagerie at the bottom of the ocean are just a few of the plots visitors may encounter on Twilight Tours.   \nThis indoor evening event takes place throughout the historic Merithew House\, where volunteer actors stationed upstairs and downstairs portray ghosts from the past. Visitors move through the building to hear each story. Pre-registration is encouraged\, walk-ins are welcome. Tours begin at 4pm and depart every 10 minutes. An accessible\, seated version of the program will also be offered for those who prefer to remain in one place. In this format\, the ghosts rotate through the room to share their stories. This wheelchair-accessible presentation begins at 3pm. Registration encouraged.
