SUMMARY:MDI Historical Society's Annual Meeting\, Potluck & Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join the Mount Desert Island Historical Society as we celebrate with an evening built around the traditions that connect us. \nThe evening opens at 5:30 p.m. with the Society’s brief Annual Meeting with a look back at a remarkable year and ahead at what’s next\, before the gathering shifts to a community potluck supper around 6:00 p.m. and tables move aside for live music and dancing with The Bagaduce Northern New England Ensemble\, a nine-piece band reviving the traditional Maine fiddle music that once filled the state’s rural dance halls. \nFree and open to everyone. Voting on Society business is limited to current members\, but the celebration is for the whole community. Registration is encouraged at mdihistory.org/events. \nBring a dish to share and your dancing shoes!

SUMMARY:Backyard Stewards Invasive Plant Identification Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In Acadia National Park\, scientists and resource managers work hard to slow the spread of invasive plants. But plants don’t stop at park boundaries. These invasive species can be found all over Mount Desert Island\, from roadsides to landscaped gardens. \nSome of the most common invasive shrubs found in Acadia were introduced as ornamental plants and still thrive in landscaped yards and gardens across Mount Desert Island. One of the best things you can do to help stop the spread of invasive plants is to learn how to tell them apart from other plants. Become a Backyard Steward and join Friends of Acadia and Acadia National Park Vegetation Manager\, Jesse Wheeler to learn techniques and tools for identifying these invasive plants in your own backyard.
