SUMMARY:Justice in a Moment:  A Skill Share Workshop for Community Action
DESCRIPTION:The Justice Ministry of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Ellsworth Maine is hosting “Justice in a Moment: A Skill Share Workshop for Community Action” on Saturday\, August 22 from 10 a.m. to noon. The event will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 121 Bucksport Road in Ellsworth\, and is free and open to the public. \nThis community fair features a series of brief\, focused presentations to give participants a chance to learn about local volunteer opportunities and develop skills through a menu of miniworkshops. Participants will select from a range of topics that include mutual aid for those in need\, simple daily actions to mitigate climate change\, understanding our 4th amendment rights\, and how to write effective letters to elected representatives. \n“This short event is designed to help community members take small actions to foster change and be responsive to the many needs of our neighbors\,” explained Jana Robinson of the Justice Ministry. “It will also introduce local resources and organizations\, as well as ways to advance their work. We hope that all participants will walk away with the following: at least 3 quick actions they can each take in the next week\, the belief that together we are capable of responding to issues in our communities\, and knowledge of new resources and people for building connections.” \nEveryone will cycle through three 20-minute miniworkshops on topics of their choice. Each workshop will include some practical tips\, a list of resources for further reading and action\, and contact information for local and national organizations. \nRefreshments will be served\, and pre-registration is not required.
