Write and call Congress to support public media. WERU depends on listener support to keep our diverse music and information programming coming to you. An important way to stand up for WERU is by writing to and calling Maine’s Congressional Delegation to let them know how important community radio is to you, and how important the Corporation for Public Broadcasting is to local community radio (25% of WERU’s budget). Continuation of federal funding for public and community media is under serious threat in Washington, so Senators Collins and King, and Representatives Pingree and Golden, should know how you feel about WERU. Just tell them your reasons why you listen and support community radio. And please thank them for their past support. More information is available at Protect My Public Media. “Read more” for contact information for our Congressional Delegation. Thank you!
Community radio relies on federal funding to:
- Cover music licensing fees, allowing stations to broadcast and stream diverse music.
- Maintain the interconnection system, ensuring stations can share and distribute content nationally.
- Strengthen emergency alerting infrastructure to keep communities informed and safe.
Whether it’s breaking news, community public affairs, independent music, or emergency alerts, community radio stations are a lifeline for millions of people.
For just $1.60 per person per year, federal funding powers community radio and public media stations across the country. But its future isn’t guaranteed.
Public media connects, educates, informs, and inspires. Let’s stand together to ensure it thrives for generations to come.
