For all the volunteer opportunities at WERU talk with our General Manager, Matt Murphy at [email protected] and learn about all the things that volunteers can do in many aspects of station operations such as…
Pledge Drive Phone Volunteers
Without people volunteering at the phones four times of year we wouldn’t be able to receive the phoned-in donations of our listeners. It would be hard to be “listener-supported” without our phone volunter.
Tablers
The WERU outreach table can be found at fairs, music events, non-profit gatherings giving out information about WERU and selling WERU merchandise. Tabling can be especially fun activity in the summer months. For example: American Folk Festival in Bangor.
Clean Up & Housekeeping Crew
To come to the WERU station once a month and take a cleaning shift and make WERU look pretty.
Various Station Committees
WERU has committees that work in the areas of programming, development, finances, technology and building & grounds.
Sister Station Activities
WERU has, since 2005, had a unique cross-cultural and international connection with the radio station Radio Sumpul located in the province of Chalatenango, El Salvador. WERU has a “sister” relationship with Radio Sumpul, a radio station that was started after a 12 year civil war that ended in 1992. WERU collaborates with Radio Sumpul to cover important issues, promote cultural awareness and support delegations of people from Maine and Chalatenango to strengthen solidarity and to be a place where Latinos living in Maine can have a broadcast voice.
Music Programmers, News Reporters & Public Affairs Program Hosts
Of course radio programming is our main service (along with our always developing Internet features) and we are always in need of new volunteers to host new shows and substitute on others. You could be the next new music programmer or public affairs producer! Free training is provided so you don’t need to have prior experience to be on the air.
