Alan Taylor Talk on Joseph Plumb Martin

Anyone who has been watching Ken Burns’ most recent documentary will recognize Dr. Taylor as the main “talking head” in the documentary. Dr. Taylor is a local guy, who graduated Colby College before finding fame as a historian. He has authored 11 books dealing with Maine and American history, including “Liberty Men and Great Proprietors: The Revolutionary Settlement on the Maine Frontier, 1760–1820” and “The Civil War of 1812: American Citizens, British Subjects, Irish Rebels, and Indian Allies” with the first being entirely and the second being in large part about Maine’s history. Alan Taylor’s talk will be about Joseph Plumb Martin, a common soldier of the Revolution who settled after the war in Stockton Springs and wrote a vivid memoir about life as a common soldier.
