On Tuesday September 29th, 4:00-5:30 pm the Belfast Free Library will host Authors in Conversation: Deborah Shepherd and Elizabeth Garber on Writing Memoirs about Difficult Memories. The program is free and open to all and will take place in the Abbott Room of the Library, 106 High Street.
Belfast authors Deborah K. Shepherd and Elizabeth Garber will discuss their memoirs, books and writing process, with readings of short selection(s) that exemplify the issues/concepts presented.
Shepherd’s new memoir, AN OLD MAN’S DARLING, was recently released by Heliotrope Books. The memoir examines her first great love, with a man thirty-four years her senior. Jean Zorn, the publisher of Persimmon Tree, said of the book: “We all have facile opinions about a young woman falling for a much older man, stereotypes that…were totally overturned.”
Elizabeth W. Garber is the author of Sailing at the Edge of Disaster: A Memoir of a Young Woman’s Daring Year (2022), and Implosion: A Memoir of an Architect’s Daughter (2018). For thirty years, Elizabeth Garber’s writing, in poetry and prose, has focused on the intimacy of closely observed moments and the inner landscapes of memory.
