Fisher Symposium: Commemoration, Liberty, and the Abolition Movement

In observance of the 250th anniversary of America’s declaration of independence, the Blue Hill Public Library and Jonathan Fisher House will present a symposium with University of Maine Associate Professor of New England History Dr. Mary Freeman on Wednesday, August 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the library. After an introduction from Fisher House board members about Fisher’s views on abolition and his 1826 sermon on slavery, Dr. Freeman will widen the scope and deliver a lecture, “Abolitionists and American Radical Politics,” on the abolitionist movement and its relevance to broader questions of liberty in the U.S., which will include connections to Fisher and abolitionist activism in Maine.
All are welcome at this free event. For more information, contact Assistant Director Kayleigh at kayleigh.thomas@bhpl.net or 374-5515.
