For Friends of Harriet L. Hartley Conservation Area’s 7th Annual Meeting, we’re honored to welcome Dwayne Tomah, Passamaquoddy language keeper and knowledge keeper, for a screening of The Doctrine of Discovery: Unmasking the Domination Code on Sunday, October 18th from 3-5pm at Belfast Public Library. The film examines the centuries-old legal and religious doctrine used to justify the taking of Indigenous lands, and its lasting influence on law and land ownership today. Dwayne will share his perspective and lead a conversation afterward about what the film means for how we think about land, stewardship, and conservation here in Maine.

We’ll also take time together to reflect on the past year at the conservation area and look ahead to our plans for the year to come.

We hope to see you there!
