Power Carve and Paint a Snowy Owl – 2 Day Workshop

Master carver Timothy Griffin leads this 2-Saturday workshop at the Wendell Gilley Museum to make a 3-D “smoothie” snowy owl half the size of the real bird on Nov. 14 and Nov. 21. This workshop will guide you through the steps of carving and painting. Beginners who are up for a serious challenge are welcome, but intermediate and advanced carvers may be more comfortable with this project.
The workshop fee includes a snowy owl cutout made from local cedar and access to: Foredom, dust collector, paints and brushes. Students are welcome to bring their own, but please note that when you sign up. Students will shape and sculpt the figure with the Foredom before going on to sand it, seal it, and paint it. Knife carvers are welcome to join the fun; please let us know, as this may allow us to include an additional power carver into the class. Extra cut outs will be available for purchase from the instructor.
This is a demonstration class. The instructor will demonstrate all the steps to finish the work, but you can work at your own pace during the class. You do not need to finish, but take careful notes, pictures and videos during the demos, so you can complete your project.
Timothy Griffin competes at the Master level in carving throughout the northeast and has won numerous Best of Show and Purchase Prizes. He teaches at his home studio in Bucksport and can be found on Facebook.
