A good story can reach people in ways arguments can’t. Theater lets us sit with hard questions together and then talk about them, and it brings people into the room who might never come to a meeting.

Wallace Shawn’s “Aunt Dan and Lemon,” directed by Belfast’s Zafra Whitcomb, follows a young woman, Lemon, and her charismatic mentor, Aunt Dan, whose stories of glamour, comfort, and admiration for powerful men slowly reveal how ordinary people come to accept cruelty and hand their allegiance to strongmen. Written forty years ago, it feels like it was written for this fall.

Come early and stay late for the social gatherings before and after each performance, with music by DJ Dee Dee Seahorn. The event is sponsored by Madison Cook, candidate for House District 39.
