Writing as Resistance: A Drop in Writing & Correspondence Group for LGBTQ+ Adults

Join Out in the Open for an ongoing, monthly drop-in writing focused gathering space for LGBTQ+ adults (ages 18+) to receive prompts for poetry, prose, or journaling, to learn about writing as a political response tool, and to cultivate LGBTQ+ centered writing community.

Participants are welcome to engage in the tools offered (which will vary each month) or to work on personal writing and related projects. Topics and tools that may be covered include writing to incarcerated folks, responsive writing such as letters to the editor or legislative testimony, and writing as creative process & practice through writing off line as writing stories of resilience and resistance to fascism and surveillance etc.

This group will typically be held the 2nd Monday of each month, starting September 14, from 5:30pm – 8pm with the exception of Monday October 5 being the first Monday. Facilitated by Out in the Open staff and occasional guests.

Soup, bread (including gluten free), tea, and coffee will be offered at no cost. Paper, pens, pencils, envelopes, and stamps are also provided.

There is an incline from the side walk to the doorway to enter the building. Restrooms are on the same level as the gathering space and are gender inclusive. KN95 masks are provided and encouraged, and the gathering space is ventilated with a fan, air purifier, and cross breezes. Please stay home if you have symptoms of contagious illness.
