Victorians loved decorating and crafting with nature and that includes using shells. This workshop will include a visit to the Penobscot Marine Museum’s Merithew House to get inspired by shell art pieces on exhibit. Then participants will create their own shell art. There will be a huge variety of shells, plus sand, seeds, and beads....
With the ocean as inspiration, create a mini tapestry with a variety of yarns, cloth, and fibers. For adults and youth 13 years and older. This workshop is led by local artist and PMM Education Assistant, Veronica Maresh Mead. Registration required.

Create sardine dishes inspired by the Maine Sardine Council cookbooks. Attendees will create several of these mid-to-late twentieth century no-bake recipes, plus a recipe or two with a modern take on flavors and food trends. All ingredients and supplies will be provided. Registration required.

Sing along or listen as PMM staff and volunteers lead an afternoon of sea chanteys and sailors’ songs. If you have a chantey to share, you are welcome to lead one. There will also information about how these songs were used as work songs. Attend once or come regularly. All ages are welcome, and no experience is needed.
Visit Penobscot Marine Museum for the last chance to explore the full campus in 2026. Enjoy access to all exhibits and historic buildings before the museum closes for the season. Admission is reduced to $10 for the day.
